Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to work on a new building project for NYCHA, which includes the installation of a boiler and chiller. The role involves assisting in the management of day-to-day construction management services, including resident engineering, inspection, and oversight of the general contractor’s performance and progress.
ResponsibilitiesManage and mentor inspection staff to monitor and track the contractor’s work, performance, quality, schedule, and safety.Ensure the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with client requirements.Manage sub-consultants and review their monthly invoices for completeness and accuracy.Assist in managing and mentoring field office staff responsible for record keeping, general correspondence, meeting agendas and minutes, compiling and drafting required reports, tracking and logging, and other deliverables.Proactively engage in the contractor’s planning and execution of work to foresee and resolve design/construction issues.Review the contractor’s CPM schedule and related documentation, providing comments, analysis, and deliverables.Assist with the change order process, including preparation, estimation, and negotiation.Liaise with design staff to respond to contractor’s RFIs, review shop drawings, and resolve issues as needed.Communicate and resolve project issues with Program Management and NYCHA Asset and Capital Management staff.Coordinate construction activities with NYCHA’s Property Management, Heating Division, and Tenant’s Association.Provide technical review of construction plans and specifications and project changes for constructability and practicality.Oversee and manage the general contractor’s efforts related to site safety, MPT, permit condition compliance, and coordination with other agencies.Monitor contractor performance, schedule, and overall responsiveness to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality.Assist with the contractor payment process and recommend appropriate adjustments.Essential Skills5+ years of experience with at least 2 years in a General Superintendent/Assistant Resident Engineer role for NYC public agencies.Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related field.Proficiency in construction software document management applications such as eBuilder and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).Experience with structural construction, new build, and/or MEP projects.New York Professional Engineer License.Certified Construction Manager (CCM).OSHA 30 certification.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience on NYCHA projects.PE license would be a plusPay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00
