The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Assistant Scientist in the Radiation Oncology Department in Miami.
SUMMARY
The Assistant Scientist, SOM will work under the supervision of Dr. Rai and senior members of her team to support her basic and translational cancer research in the area of redox biology. Moreover, the Assistant Scientist, SOM contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.
+ Contributes to basic and applied cancer research activities and authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.
+ Collaborates with other lab members to complete experiments and publish findings in refereed journals.
+ Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results.
+ Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.
+ Writes extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff.
+ Provides ready access to all experimental data for managing staff.
+ Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s).
+ Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.
+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in Cancer biology or relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 3 year of relevant experience in cancer research
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
+ Must be proficient in basic molecular and cell biology techniques
+ Must have a background in cancer biology
+ Must have some experience with animal models
+ Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills
+ Must be skilled in writing proficiently
+ Must have strong organizing and analytical skills
+ Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
+ Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
+ Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively in multidisciplinary teams
+ Ability to adapt quickly and multitask as relevant to the situation.
+ Must be willing to occasionally work on weekends and outside of traditional hours
