MISSION / SUMMARY:  Assistant Superintendent, Paper Machine Operations.  This position will be a flex/project position for paper machine operations of a 2 machine, 2600 ton per day manufacturing facility. This role will report directly to the Manufacturing Director. Candidate will be involved with both machine teams and assigned to projects and improvement initiatives as needed for both machines.   

 

 

JOB FUNCTION: Job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Follow all GPI and industry safety standards to encourage and promote a safe work environment, targeting a 0 RIR goal for the departments. Utilize GPI standard work processes to identify and correct issues related to machine operation Utilize process trends, centerlines, and data analysis to identify areas of opportunity and implement methods to mitigate process issues Work directly with paper machine teams (Superintendent, Area Assistant Superintendents, OMC, Process Engineers, Front Line Leader, and Operators) to mitigate issues and expedite machine project initiatives Lead improvement project initiatives as assigned by the Manufacturing Director Backfill/Set-Up job positions as needed by the paper machine teams Assist in directing production operations in a safe and orderly manner providing quality products according to schedules and customer specifications. Develop improved methods for new capital investments, manufacturing cost reduction and equipment refurbishment. Assist in preparation of budgets and cost controls as needed Determine training needs and assist in administering appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees on Paper Machines

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Five (5+) years of leadership experience in the pulp and paper industry, preferably experience on paperboard machines specifically   Wet end experience in fourdrinier, and/or multi-ply paper machines Experience with on machine coating stations

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelor of Science, Engineering. Preferred

This position requires key competencies that include: an individual with strong communication and problem solving skills, demonstrated leadership and collaboration in a team environment, persistence and enthusiasm to get the job done, planning and organizational skills, analytical thinking skills, strategic planning, quality orientation and a commitment to excellence, and superior interpersonal people skills.  The successful candidate must exhibit proven ability to self-manage in a dynamic, fast paced environment.  Lean Implementation experience and knowledge of six sigma principles will also be needed
