Assistant Supervisor, Operations

 

Job Summary:        

Supervise and lead in coordination with the Director, Operations of the ongoing execution of daily operations within the warehouse where accuracy and timeliness must be upheld within all work-streams and facets of the operation.


Essential Functions

Directly supervise associates and sustain department standards and methods.Drive safety programs and OSHA standards.Develop employees through consistent communication and coaching of performance relative to department standards.Inspire open communication among the team and create a foundation of opportunity for employees through development.Sustain and maintain consistent training programs and methods.Promote employee ownership and empowerment.Oversee and engage in the process of processing books and fulfilling customer orders in a timely and accurate manner.Sustain a high level of productivity by fulfilling the role of a leader on the work floor and by carrying out responsibilities.Ensure the daily tasks and checklists are completed.Perform on-the-floor coaching by following up with employees on the floor about their performance and iterations of the department’s standard operating procedures as needed.Track and maintain daily metrics for the department and employees.Communicate with the Director, Operations daily and weekly all goals and expectations, focusing on department metrics, employee performance, and overall operation.Participate regularly and daily in the day-to-day tasks alongside the team members.Work to promote, champion, and maintain all lean sigma initiatives implemented operationally.


 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrates the ability to lead, influence, and coach a large team.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment.Knowledge of OSHA relevant standards.A willingness to learn and utilize department vocabulary.Demonstrated record of leading successful change involving all levels of employees with measurable results.Ability to learn new concepts and pass knowledge along to others through hands-on instruction.Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor associates.Possess high energy and self-motivation with experience working with teams to implement change.Able to use a variety of personal computer software applications in a networked environment, including Microsoft Office Suite, email/Outlook, and the internet:  Intermediate level proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.Management style and duties must be consistent with and support Better World Books’ mission and core values.

                                                 
 Qualifications, Training, and Experience:

A high school diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.Minimum of one (1) year of warehouse, distribution and or manufacturing experience.Minimum of one (1) year experience in a supervisory role.
