Full-time hours during school breaks and part-time hours may be available during school.** As a Student Worker with the Sales and Use Tax Division, you will assist our auditors with reviewing sales and use tax returns and the supporting documentation from taxpayer records. In addition to learning about Sales and Use Tax, you will learn different review methods like statistical sampling, random sampling, block sampling, and electronic data review. Our auditors are good communicators and use good judgment. They are professional and empathetic public servants with a passion for educating customers and a keen eye for accuracy. You will have the opportunity to become familiar with a variety of accounting software programs, and utilize other common software programs like Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat in the work you perform. This position is eligible for telework to applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Telework eligibility is based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion. Travel to audit locations in the Twin Cities Metro area with other auditors and commuting to the St. Paul office location for occasional in-person meetings is expected. **Minimum Qualifications** A college student in their second or third year of coursework pursuing one of the following business-related fields of study: Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business & Administration, Business Management, Marketing or related degree as determined by the agency; A graduate student pursuing one of the following business-related fields of study: Master's degree in Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, Taxation, or related degree as determined by the agency. **Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver's license.** Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following during the interview process: + Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles as evidenced by academic coursework or related work experience. + Knowledge and application of personal computers skills, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets and database applications/software. + Human relations, oral and written communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner. + Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position. **NOTE** : To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker, you must be a student enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or planning to enroll within three months. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution, you must carry at least six semester credits; if enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment. **Preferred Qualifications** • Pursuing a Bachelors in Accounting, MBA-Accounting and/or Masters in Accountancy or Taxation degree, or CPA. • Work experience with sales and use tax laws and returns. • Work experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping. • Work experience in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Excel Certified. • Work experience researching, interpreting, and explaining tax laws and rules. • Customer service work experience communicating orally and/or in writing with customers. **Physical Requirements** Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records and laptop computer. **Additional Requirements** Prior to an offer of employment, a background check will be conducted.
