Based on the semester-to-semester needs of the department, as determined by the supervisor, candidates may be asked to teach online, if applicable. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.
**Salary/Pay Range** : $50,000. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

**Summary**
The Music program at UCCS seeks an innovative string (violin, viola, cello, or double bass) instrumentalist who can build our UCCS String Quartet and chamber music programs. The preferred candidate will also have a background as a conductor, and experience in improvisation, electronic music, hip hop, and/or other popular and global musical traditions. Supporting a new Music B.A. degree, this forward-thinking educator will have a 4-4 teaching load and support diverse music majors and non-majors, whose interests span a wide range of genres. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to empower and advocate for students with different identities and experiences through inclusive, innovative curricular and pedagogical strategies. The Music Program is housed within the Visual & Performing Arts department, which encourages interdisciplinary collaborations.
**Essential Functions**
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
+ Directing the university orchestra and/or other ensembles.
+ Supporting music majors and students from across the campus.
+ Supporting the new Music B.A. degree.
+ Guiding students to connect classroom experiences with professional applications.
+ Advocating for students with different identities and experiences through inclusive curriculum and pedagogical strategies.
+ Service to the program and the department.
+ Teaching courses such as ethnomusicology, music history, music theory, upper-division electives, and courses in the Visual & Performing Arts core curriculum. The Music Program is housed within the Visual & Performing Arts department, which encourages interdisciplinary collaborations.
**Tentative Search Timeline**

**Qualifications**
+ A Master's Degree in Music or a closely related field is required. Must be conferred by August 15, 2025.
+ Applicants must have one year of college-level teaching experience or equivalent.
+ A Ph.D., D.M.A., or equivalent terminal degree is preferred.
+ Ideal candidates will have a graduate degree in a stringed instrument and demonstrated success as a performer.
+ Experience in improvisation, electronic music, hip hop, and/or popular/global traditions is a plus.
+ Demonstrated success in conducting and/or ensemble leadership is highly desired.
+ Exceptional candidates will have the ability to develop and teach interdisciplinary courses within the VAPA curriculum.
+ Experience working, performing, and teaching in a broad range of musical styles is preferred.
+ Strong candidates will have facility with a variety of current and innovative music technologies.
