Assistant Team Leader Bridge Inspection Trainee

Position Summary:  The trainee will be enrolled in a 3000-hour on-the-job training program which includes field activities and office procedures. The trainee may qualify for the position of Assistant Team Leader after successful graduation from the program.

Work Location

This position will have time spent roughly equally between fieldwork and office work. Office work will be conducted at the Syracuse Office. Fieldwork may be conducted in any of the following locations:

Region 3 - Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga, Oswego, Seneca & Tompkins Counties Region 7 - Clinton, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, & St. Lawrence Counties

Field assignments may be day trips or require one of more overnight stays to complete assignments. While on travel status, trainees will be compensated for lodging and meals using State approved per diem rates. Mileage, tolls, parking and other ancillaries for travel are also included. Details will be discussed during the interview.

Compensation is $ 25.00 - $ 30.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Review plans, specifications and construction methods in order to calculate quantities, make electronic sketches and interpret field conditions. Perform routine inspection and monitoring of material conditions including concrete, steel, and timber. Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures Gather and documents hydraulic information including scour documentation and depth readings Makes field notes and computations Take photographs and organize for field reports Input collected data to electronic format Work with various software to produce inspection reports
