About the Department
The University of Chicago community includes approximately 5,600 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate, professional, and other students and there are over 300 recognized student organizations working together to create a vibrant and dynamic student life. The University sponsors 20 varsity sports. The Department of Athletics & Recreation maintains an environment that supports the student athletes' commitment to thriving academically and athletically. Job Summary
Responsibilities
Teach, coach, and mentor student-athletes, recruit qualified prospects, logistical planning of practice and competition, developing and implementing strategies, and complying with University, NCAA, and UAA expectations, standards, and regulations.
Teaching relevant skills to student-athletes during training and competition.
Evaluating the performance of the team and individuals to instruct and advise on technical, strategic, and mental development.
Counseling student-athletes on athletic, academic, and personal needs, consulting with the head coach and appropriate University personnel as necessary.
Adhering to the University and state law requirements regarding mandatory reporters, responsible employees, and campus security authorities.
Extensive domestic travel required.
Secondary departmental responsibilities will be assigned by the athletic director.
Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
Has a moderate/high level of authority to participate in staff meetings, individual planning meetings and parent-student staffing.
Helps staff to plan and execute events.
Performs other related work as needed.

Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
Minimum of two years of significant and relevant playing or teaching/coaching experience in tennis.
Certifications:
CPR/First Aid certification (may be fulfilled upon employment).
Valid driver's license.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficient in computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
Preferred Competencies
Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and its rules.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments concurrently.
Familiarity with NCAA rules and Division III philosophy.
Embracing and understanding the importance of diversity and inclusion on teams and at the University.
Working Conditions
Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
