Job Purpose:
Working within the Japanese Property and Casualty Team based in London, you will be responsible for assisting the team with the portfolio management of Japanese corporate clients and, under the supervision of Underwriter / Senior Underwriter, the acquisition of new business and retention of existing clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Negotiate within authority new enquiries, renewals, mid-term amendments referring where appropriate.Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, Brokers and colleagues attending meetings when appropriate.Ensure that documentation is prepared correctly and issued within contract certainty time frames.
General underwriting administration and compilation of processing data to ensure efficient workflow and data qualityLiaise with other departments on various issues such as risk entry, premium booking, claims, exception reports, credit control.Assist the Head of Underwriting with collation of information, running of reports to facilitate the monitoring of the portfolio.Undertake specific ad-hoc projects as and when required.Attending in house / external training sessions and actively maintain own training record.
Performance Objectives:
Get to know and demonstrate good communication with the team and other departments we work closely with such as Marine, Business Development, Claims, Bridgend & Finance. Be able to follow underwriting guidelines.Be able to confidently use the underwriting systems and understand their functionality. These include Pega, Eclipse, Imageright, ERS etc. Training to be given. To understand how our business operates from Pre-bind to Post-bind and the steps in-between.Skills and Experience Specification:
Essential:
Experience of working within a similar role (typically 2 years’ experience)Educated to at least A level or equivalent with good Maths and English GCSE grades.Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to underpin broker development and relationship buildingGood organisation and prioritisation skills.A willingness to work both as part of team and on own initiative as required.
Desirable:
Working towards insurance qualificationsKnowledge of insurance industry regulations and trends
Experience of underwriting Property, Casualty and Construction business is desirable which could be from the commercial SME sector.
