Assistant Underwriting Manager

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Assistant Underwriting Manager. The right candidate will manage and supervise Underwriters, ensuring the underwriters are meeting company established quality, productivity and performance metrics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for overseeing a team of underwriters, ensuring they are proficient and updated on all guidelines, so they can make sound underwriting decisions on loans they are assigned. Support underwriters when questions arise on topics including but not limited to; when a final decision is difficult or marginal, conditions, interactions with production teammates, appraisals, etc. Review pipeline of assigned loans daily and load balance as applicable for prompt underwriting decisions.Assist underwriters in prioritizing RUSH requests, conditions reviews, and newly submitted loans to remain within company established turn times.Perform second level reviews of declined loans and discuss the outcome with the Mortgage Loan Officer and/or Production Management. Escalate any unresolved matters to the Underwriting Manager for additional review.Schedule reoccurring meetings with underwriters at a minimum of once a month to review new programs, changes to policies, procedures and discuss opportunities Respond and provide training based on post-closing or audit findingsAct as a liaison, when necessary, between branch personnel and underwriting staffCoordinate the resolution of post-closing issuesReview and approve underwriting staff payroll including vacation and sick timeWork closely with the Underwriting Manager to manage staffing and other department requirementsConduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the companyAble to travel overnight

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Minimum of three years of underwriting experienceProficiency with the underwriting Loan Origination System (LOS)FHA Direct EndorsementVA LAPP is preferred but not required Ability to apply critical thinking to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or verbal formatProficiency with MS Office and emailAbility to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral visionThe noise level is generally moderate
