Assistant Vice President, Center for Academic Excellence
*Overview:* The Assistant Vice President for the Center for Academic Excellence provides strategic leadership for academic support services, student progression initiatives, and case management at Salem State University. Overseeing the Center’s programs, staff, and facilities, this role ensures the delivery of inclusive, high-quality support services that promote student success. The Assistant Vice President collaborates with faculty and campus leaders in academic affairs, enrollment management, and student life and other office across campus to assess and enhance learning support services, address disparities, and improve student outcomes. They also evaluate academic advising and student support structures, strengthening case management strategies to boost retention, persistence, and graduation rates. The Assistant Vice President may report to PEC when requested. *Key Responsibilities:* * Direct and coordinate programs in Academic Advising, Accessible Academic Resources, Retention Services, First Year Experience, TRIO, Upward Bound, Veteran’s Services, Summer Bridge Academy, and more. * Partner with faculty, campus leaders, and external stakeholders to integrate student support strategies and improve retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes. * Oversee a $4M budget and manage a diverse team of directors and program managers, ensuring fiscal responsibility and regulatory compliance. * Lead initiatives to enhance academic advising, data-driven case management, and program innovation in line with Salem State’s student success and retention goals. Join us and be part of a transformative community that enriches lives across the Commonwealth. *Please Note:Applicants must apply online and attach resume and cover letter. * *** **Applications submitted to MassCareers will not be reviewed.** *** *Required Qualifications:* * Master’s degree * Seven to ten years of significant experience in higher education (academic affairs, advising, academic support services) with substantive supervisory experience. * Demonstrated experience working with students from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and in particular Hispanic students, first generation students and students of color. * Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and de-escalate/manage conflict. * Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external constituencies with a strong record of collaboration between administrative and academic areas. * Current knowledge of and proficiency with the analysis of trend data, market research and student progression initiatives. *Preferred Qualifications:* * Doctorate * Demonstrated experience with use of technology to create operational efficiencies. * Proficiency in oral and written Spanish. *Working Location* This is a hybrid position in Salem, MA with some on-campus, in-person responsibilities.
