Posting Summary Reporting directly to the Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian (VP/UL), the Assistant Vice President for Collections and Digital Strategies (AVP-CDS) has a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our collections and digital. Supported by a team of 7 faculty and 2 staff members the Assistant Vice President for Collections and Digital Strategies (AVP-CDS) allocates and oversees the Libraries’ collections budget of over $13 million for acquisitions, licensing, and digital strategies that expand access to information resources. The AVP-CDS is the primary advocate and strategist for building, refining, and preserving collections and resources in print and digital format and ensuring their discoverability and accessibility. The successful candidate provides leadership, strategic direction, and support for the Libraries’ collections and digital services infrastructure strategies in alignment with institutional values and university priorities. accessibility and digital services that include general and distinctive collections, digital projects and initiatives, open scholarship, technical preservation (print and digital), interlibrary loan services.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Manage workflow and operations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, prioritizing user-centered collections and discovery services.2. Offer strategic direction for collections and digital strategies in alignment with institutional values and university priorities.3. Assess resources and services using appropriate techniques to inform evidence-based decision-making.4. Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Administrative and IT Services to oversee essential library systems and platforms crucial for collections and discovery services.5. Spearhead diversity and inclusion efforts in collection development, digital initiatives, and scholarly communications, driving collaborative research data sharing and adapting to changes in the academic landscape.6. Represent the organization in consortial and collaborative settings, contributing to multi-institutional program development strategies.7. Liaise with campus partners, including the Office for Research, University Press, and Office of Information Technology, to meet evolving requirements for scholarly outputs and data mandated by granting agencies.8. Lead the formulation of collection and open publishing initiatives, aligning with the library’s strategic objectives.9. Champion open access principles, facilitating the broad dissemination of scholarship produced and consumed by Rutgers scholars.10. Negotiate vendor and publisher agreements to ensure equitable access to scholarship and publishing services.11. Provide strategic guidance for Distinctive and Special Collections and Archives to enrich the library’s holdings and support university teaching, research, and learning goals.The AVP-CDS is an administrator and faculty member who plays a key role in the appointment, reappointment, and promotion of library faculty and therefore must qualify for tenure on appointment. The successful candidate has a record of professional achievement through scholarly research relevant to academic librarianship, including publications, presentations, and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations, particularly on the national level.
