We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a health and welfare benefits Legal Consultant in a fast-paced, friendly environment. This position will work in the Aon Health Solutions Legal Consulting group along with two dozen other attorneys and professionals to provide legal consulting services to internal stakeholders and external clients of the Aon Health Solutions practice. This national position is available to be worked remotely, managed from our Chicago office.

What the day will look like
You will work with experienced health care consulting professionals to address developments in federal and state health and welfare law and their impact on employer group health plans. You will be involved in assessing plan design, operations, administration, and financing, along with developing and evaluating options for clients to address the complexities of health care law.
How this opportunity is different
At Aon, you will be a member of a team of health care professionals with backgrounds in accounting, actuarial, law, analytics, audit, health and wellbeing, pharmaceuticals, and technology, providing consulting services to employers in the private and public sectors. Clients will run the gamut from employers with fewer than 500 employees to large multinational corporations across a variety of industries.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
+ Responsibility for consulting and advising both internal stakeholders and external clients on federal and state health and welfare laws and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and the Internal Revenue Code taxation of benefits provisions.
+ Identify compliance issues in the design, operation, and administration of employer health and welfare plans and suggest resolutions through exceptional research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills,
+ Explain legal concepts and options to clients and consultants in layperson’s terms
+ Track and monitor new laws and regulations, as well as revisions to existing laws on the federal and state level that impact health and welfare employee benefits.
+ Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and internal stakeholders in plain language on legal changes to various federal and state laws and regulations, including the design, administrative, strategic and financial implications.
+ Research and respond to health and welfare employee benefit questions in a fast-paced environment.
+ Draft and review notices, plan documents, SPDs, and other regulatory communications.
You Bring Knowledge and Expertise
Required Experience:
+ 5 to 8 years current legal experience (consulting firm, law firm, and/or corporate counsel) in health and welfare benefits with strong knowledge and practical experience in ERISA, ACA, ADA, HIPAA, and the Internal Revenue Code.
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills.
+ Experience with mental health parity laws a plus.
Education and Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ L aw degree from an accredited law school.
+ Admitted to practice law in at least one State or the District of Columbia

Pay Transparency Laws: The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is between $140,000.00 and $180,000.00 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Chicago, IL. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.
This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
