Assistant VP - Pharmacy

Work where you matter.** **A Brief Overview** Under general supervision, plans, directs and coordinates clinical and operational pharmacy services and manages affiliated hospital pharmacy services in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of pharmacy. Provides visible leadership for pharmacy services for the assigned region. Collaborates with management personnel from system affiliates to coordinate and integrate the delivery of pharmacy services across the full continuum of patient care. Serves as a key member of the Avera Pharmacy Leadership team. Directs the procurement, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals and the dissemination of pharmaceutical product information to patients, healthcare professionals, and communities served by the assigned region. Ensures that the department environment provides for optimal professional development. Directs and encourages staff towards accomplishment of Avera's philosophy, mission and goals. Develops and implements effective intra and inter departmental communication strategies. Coordinates work flow with other team members to ensure a productive and efficient environment. Serves on organization committees as requested/required. **What you will do** + Participates in setting department goals and objectives within the framework of the organization’s key initiatives. Evaluates effectiveness and implements changes to achieve desired outcomes. Develops action plans to meet established objectives and monitors progress. + Responsible for the coordination of all activities associated with departmental policies and procedures. Accountable for the ongoing operations of the department with regard to established safety/quality standards, established goals and objectives, and efficiency and productivity standards. Assists with the analysis, collection of and maintenance of records as required for Joint Commission accreditation, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the law. + Assures the establishment and maintenance of standards of practice, competency-based orientation, and continuing education programs for the department. Maintains and recommends enhancements to department policies and procedures governing all pharmacy operations and monitors implementation and compliance with hospital-wide policies. + Oversees the budget planning process for responsible areas/facilities. Evaluates variances, and manages expenses to ensure budgeted objectives are met. Establishes and maintains clinical and operational systems that insure maximum resource utilization and financial performance of the department. + Guides the hospital pharmacy management team to ensure staffing model(s) that efficiently utilizes all resources to provide maximum productivity and deliver high quality, patient-centered, pharmaceutical care. Ensures the maintenance of master and daily work schedules for the department, which effectively supports pharmacy services. Monitors and coordinates adjustments to workflow patterns. + Serves on hospital and Medical Staff committees. Participates in multi-disciplinary teams to develop patient-centered services, designs and implements corresponding programs, and measures their effectiveness within the Health System’s goals related to cost, quality and patient outcomes. + Uses continuous quality improvement methodology to lead and/or facilitate ongoing focus teams to improve work processes. Creates a work climate that empowers employees and values their contributions. Incorporates the philosophy, mission and vision of Avera in internal relationships and all guests served. Serves as the facilitator of the change process, assuring outcomes are consistent with department goals and objectives. + Directs and coordinates the operational, compounding, distribution, inventory management, and technical pharmacy services of the hospital. Provides oversight to assigned personnel to ensure optimal coordination between various work areas and service lines of the Avera Regional Hospitals. + Ensures pharmacy representation on committees, service lines, and work groups related to the development of medication use and pharmacy services. + Collaborates with key internal leaders and external partners to ensure optimal use of technology to support the provision of pharmacy services. + Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. **Essential Qualifications** The individual must be able to work the hours specified.
