Required Education:

4 Year Degree To effectively serve the Department of Athletics and assist the Head Women’s Soccer Coach by performing administrative roles and responsibilities that will help effectively manage the day-to-day operations of a Division I women’s soccer program. The success of the program will be evaluated overall success (conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances), recruiting, retention and graduating student-athletes and community service.

This position represents the second level of command structure after the head coach and is the primary recruiter.

Duties and responsibilities

•Assist the Head Women’s Soccer Coach with all aspects of the program including recruiting, official and unofficial visits, practice planning, game preparation and scouting, team video breakdown and analysis, video exchange, travel, academic compliance and monitoring, NCAA, Conference and University rules compliance, and community service. •Teach and educate student-athletes in the fundamentals, techniques and game strategies for soccer. •Comply with all University, New York State policies and procedures related to budgeting, procurement, expenditures and reimbursements. •Annually attend the mandatory sexual violence prevention program as required by federal, state, SUNY and University policies and procedures prior to or at the beginning of the academic year.

Student-Athlete Welfare, Development and Social Acclimation:

•This position will work with each student-athlete and assist with personal development, considerations for student-athlete welfare and provide a social climate that encourages transparency, inclusiveness and collegiality.

Recruiting:

•Responsible for evaluating and recruiting all positions in local and national events and games. •Will manage recruiting event schedules and planning, as well as be able to identify, evaluate and correspond with prospective student-athletes, parents/guardians and coaches. •This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining a network of recruiting contacts that will help attract student-athletes who meet the academic and athletic mission of UAlbany. •This position will be responsible for complying with all NY State and University regulations regarding state travel, per-diem and reimbursement as a result of business related expenses.

Scouting:

•Assist the Head Coach in developing practice and game plans. •Will assist the Head Coach in all areas of game scouting, film review and student-athlete preparation.

Academic, Degree Progress:

•Responsible for work in conjunction with the Academic Support Services department to assist with academic and degree progress for student-athletes. This includes, but is not limited to, academic and course scheduling, academic monitoring through class checks, study hall monitoring and organizing study sessions during team travel. •May be responsible for providing educational programs for student-athletes, assist with mentoring and tutoring as needed.

Community Service

•Will be an active participant in all community service projects and assist as need in the organization or communication of different community outreach activities during the school year.

Fundraising

•Active participant in all fundraising activities, as deemed necessary by the Head Coach.

Camps and Clinics:

•Assist the head coach with organizing and administering ID Clinics, youth camps, summer camps and coaches clinics as needed.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, master’s degree or higher preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience at the high school level and higher. A minimum of 2 years of that time was at the college and/or professional levels. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one-year of the required experience. Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, administrative, verbal and written communication, and creative problem-solving skills are required. Computer skills with a general knowledge of ARMS software and the ability to learn additional software programs as needed.  Drive and a strong desire to learn and grow as a coach is preferred. Knowledge of NCAA rules. The ability to work with people in a multi-ethnic environment is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those other cultures or backgrounds is required. The scope of this position requires weekend, evening and possible holiday hours.
