They’ll study, educate, analyze and evaluate airplane performance, weight and balance capabilities, and functionality. The Associate Ops Engineer is a detail-oriented thinker, who is ready to drive the future of Southwest’s Network Operations Planning.

Responsibilities
Participate in defining the takeoff, en route, and landing aircraft performance and weight and balance data as required by FAR Part 25 and 121Participate in analyzing aircraft performance to support the safe and efficient operation of the airline and convey that information through performance and weight and balance systems, Electronic Flight Bag, Dispatch flight planning system, Flight Operations Manual, Flight Reference Manual, and other Flight Operations and Network Operations Control publicationsParticipate in the validation and audit support for aircraft performance systems and supporting data, including the performance and weight and balance systems, Dispatch flight planning system, and navigational dataParticipate in the support and training, as required, of other groups within the Company, including Flight Operations, Dispatch, Network Planning, Technical Operations, Finance, Supply Chain Management, General Counsel, and Ground Operations in regard to aircraft performance capability and regulationProvide support and representation to external groups, including airport authorities, manufacturers, vendors, regulators, and consultantsAssist in the development and integration of new technologies into OperationsAssist in the development and maintenance of software code for Operations Engineering to support the operations working groupsParticipate in the transition of current operations engineering programming standards to future standards based on the best operational and business practices availableUnderstand and apply applicable regulations, manufacturer requirements and recommendations, Company policies and industry standards related to aircraft performance and operations engineeringMust be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this decryptionMay perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s LeadersKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programmingKnowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and servicesKnowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, aerodynamics, and their applicationsSkilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing, and assimilating data, including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization softwareSkilled in identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutionsSkilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problemsAbility to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problemAbility to read documents, follow instructions, learn, and understand office procedures and various contractsAbility to work with others as part of a Team and work under stressful situationsAbility to work extended hours based on operational needsEducationRequired: High School Diploma or GEDExperienceEntry-level experience; developing skills and knowledge in:Airline or manufacturer experience in aerodynamics and/or aircraft performance engineering and programming experienceBoeing aircraft performance tools and methodsAircraft certification, flight operations, flight dispatch, and aircraft weight and balanceLicensing/CertificationN/APhysical AbilitiesAbility to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of timeAbility to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the jobAbility to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the jobOther QualificationsMust maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelinesMust be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986Must be at least 18 years of ageMust be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelinesPay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $84,100 - $86,000.00per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
