Purpose

Participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising services for Fine Arts Student Affairs, working primarily with students majoring in Design or pursuing the Minor in Arts Management & Administration (MAMA).

Responsibilities

ROUTINE ACADEMIC ADVISING: Serve as primary advisor to Design and MAMA students. Establish rapport, provide support, and assist students in navigating the university. Provide information about degree requirements, academic policies, and institutional rules. Follow departmental guidelines and policies. Make appropriate referrals to other offices and programs.

DEVELOPMENTAL ADVISING: Assist students in identifying and pursuing educational, life, and career goals. Help students to identify and mitigate barriers to academic success.  Counsel students in distress. Stimulate student behaviors that develop independence, personal well-being, and growth.

MINOR COORDINATION: Manage minor applications and approvals. Make basic updates to minor website. Converse with students about Fine Arts internship resources (e.g., Fine Arts Career Services) and internship approval/registration process.

PROGRAM ENHANCEMENT: Work closely with Design and MAMA program leadership to enhance undergraduate opportunity and excellence. Liaise with appropriate administrators to ensure course availability. With course schedulers, oversee course closing limits, reservations, wait lists, and prerequisite checks. Manage student petitions and memos.

COMMUNICATION: Inform students of advising and other opportunities via website, electronic newsletters, and digital publications. Draft correspondence and respond to generic inquiries.  Stay up to date on advising, college, and university initiatives. Communicate with faculty on student matters.

TEAM ENGAGEMENT: Actively participate in team meetings and decision making. Support team members working with students majoring in other Fine Arts disciplines. Advance Fine Arts Student Affairs objectives and contribute to its programs (New Student Orientation, First-Year Experience, etc.). Staff student events (Commencement, Gone to Fine Arts, etc.).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Increase knowledge and abilities through continuing education and professional development.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity OR

Master's degree in a related field and two years of experience.

Familiarity with Design or related fields.

Salary Range

$48,000 fixed-rate

This is a student-facing position and will have a high on-campus presence.

Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
