Summary of Position
Directs the Athletic Training program for University of New Hampshire Department of Athletics and oversees the daily function of the Athletic Training facilities. Collaborates with the coaching staff, strength and conditioning, and nutrition regarding pre-, regular- and post- season conditioning. Coordinates medical coverage for all sponsored athletics events. Manages and leads Athletic Trainers (and associated medical professionals) in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Directs athletic training operations including the development and implementation of policies, processes, and procedures. Provides the Department of Athletics with the administrative management necessary for the successful operation of a Division I athletics training and health care delivery system for over 500 student-athletes.

Other minimum qualifications
Master’s degree; Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association; 5 years experience within a collegiate athletics setting; Previous supervisory experience; Must hold/obtain New Hampshire State Athletic Trainer’s Licensure before starting employment; Strong verbal and interpersonal communications skills; and, Ability to work with diverse groups/populations. Must also have current CPR certification.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of experience. Must have knowledge of a wide range of medical conditions. Assessment, evaluation, and working closely with other healthcare professionals will be required. Individuals must have ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions within the standing orders and state regulations. Must be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation and must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision. Must also be able to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to student patients, medical professionals, Athletics staff, and families.

Duty/Responsibility

Serve as the Athletic Health Care Administrator for the University of New Hampshire Department of Athletics. Responsible for staying abreast of all NCAA legislation as it pertains to student-athlete health, provide overall supervision, leadership, and management of Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology, and non-medical supervision of the Physicians. Interface with on-campus resources for Health and Wellness, Psychological & Counseling Services, Behavioral Intervention, and others (both on-campus and off) as appropriate. Provide medical care for student athletes per standing orders and sports medicine standard operating procedures by providing on-site care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation; assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion; ensure timely and accurate electronic documentation of all evaluations and other pertinent information regarding the health and welfare of student-athletes; and, communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of student-athletes with restrictions and/or limitations. Administrative duties outside of sports medicine as assigned. These may include but are not limited to overseeing the sports medicine/Athletic Training budget, contracts with outside vendors, and fundraising initiatives.

Primary contact for NCAA Drug Testing. Oversee in-house drug testing program. Serve as a member of Athletics drug testing committee. Provide support as needed for student-athletes with positive test results as well as any student-athletes who enter Safe Harbor.
