Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following full-time position: Associate Athletic Director for the Student-Athlete Support Services in the Student-Athlete Academic Services Department.

This position is responsible for overseeing, leading, and coordinating the Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) unit with an emphasis of oversight regarding all academic related duties in association with the sport of football. This position will plan, develop and implement a comprehensive academic service program that will serve all student-athletes in an ethical manner that is aligned with the University, Sun Belt Conference, and NCAA. This position leads and oversees the work of SAAS advising personnel to ensure consistent processes and procedures are in place related to student-athlete advising, assessment, and academic success plans. This position requires substantial responsibility in communicating high-risk scenarios that will have NCAA eligibility implications. This position serves as the primary point of contact for the SAAS unit with all internal and external constituents. This position provides comprehensive academic advising to assist student- athletes in identifying and meeting their academic goals leading to graduation and career development.

Student Services Manager I (CB75/61121603/202400351), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 07. Salary range: $56,210.00 (minimum) - $80,105.00 (midpoint). This position is open until filled. Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.

Duties include, but not limited to:

Manage day-to-day program operations and services, policies and procedures, and staff or student-athlete academic services. Provide leadership and management of staff to ensure compliance with existing university and campus procedures; which includes evaluating staff performance, work allocation, providing effective training, corrective and/or disciplinary action, and problem resolution; keep abreast of policies, regulations and technology in higher education for regulatory changes, best practices, alternatives, critical issues, etc. and formulate recommendations based on those changes; participate in the development, maintenance and updating of policies and procedures as they impact student-athletes. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Promote healthy work habits. Assign advisors to teams for purposes of academic advising, recruiting, and communicating with athletic personnel. Develop and oversee SAAS program budget. Attend professional meetings, seminars, and conferences in order to enhance skills and expertise in providing program leadership, working with students and to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the student-athlete experience.

Lead academic advising efforts to ensure consistent processes and procedures for all student-athletes. Ensures student-athletes and coaching staff are aware of academic holds prior to registration and provides assistance in resolving issues. Works with campus advisers to assist student-athletes with schedule changes as needed; specifically, at the beginning of each term. Communicates class schedules to all coaches and support staff at the beginning of each term. Works with campus transfer advisers, admissions, and compliance to review all transcripts to ensure successful transition of transfer student-athletes and ensure they meet all NCAA transfer regulations. Works with all staff members to develop and implement individualized academic support plans for student-athletes to address goal setting, time management, study skills, self-advocacy skills, etc. Provides individual one-on-one academic assistance as needed. Travels with assigned teams for competitions when needed.

Monitors academic progress of assigned student-athletes to ensure appropriate learning services and resources are available to meet the individual academic needs. Maintains an accurate tracking system for assigned student-athletes’ progress throughout the semester. Coordinates and manages the daily and weekly monitoring programs for assigned student-athletes. Communicates all academic issues directly to supervisor. Provides accurate daily, weekly, and semester academic progress reports, as requested. Holds student-athletes accountable for their academic progress by verifying that information is accurate, timely and complete. Maintains open and consistent contact on a daily basis with the coaching staff, campus academic advisers and administration. Meets with recruits during on-campus visits to review available services for students, the CCU admission process, and an overview of the university’s philosophy and approach to delivery of services. Assists with recruiting weekends and new student-athlete orientation activities. Assists with facilitating Summer Bridge programming and New Student-Athlete Orientation sessions in August and January.

Serve as an advocate for student athletes, publicizing successes, and communicating mission and needs to the Coastal Carolina community and other institutions that look to Coastal as a model for academic support for athletes. Coordinate with the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and the registrars office on NCAA reports, including Academic Progress Rate and Graduation Success Rate. Evaluate team travel schedules to monitor missed class time and advocates for appropriate travel/class attendance policies. Update administrators, coaches, student-athletes regarding CCU, Sun Belt Conference and NCAA changes in policies/procedures and by-laws. Serve on the University committees (University Advising Leadership Team, Intercollegiate Athletics committee, etc.) to assist with strategic planning, program implementation and evaluation. Provide Senior Associate Provost for Student Retention and Completion with ongoing program evaluation and recommendations to ensure all academic operations reflect high quality service, efficient and accurate systems, and integrity.

Models, promotes and ensures exceptional customer service delivery to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large.

Required: Master’s degree. At least five (5) years related experience.
Preferred: A diverse understanding of issues that affect NCAA Division I student-athletes and experience working with student-athlete academic/student support services preferred.
