The Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Tufts Medical Center in Boston is seeking a full-time academic Infectious Diseases specialist with significant experience in clinical and/or translational research to lead the Divisional research program as the Associate Chief of Infectious Diseases for Research. Successful applicants will have a track record of impactful publishing, robust federal and other research support and/or experience running clinical trials, as appropriate to their career stage. Candidates who bring state-of-the-art methods and advanced capabilities that can add to our transdisciplinary translational research will be prioritized. The successful candidate will mentor students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty who are interested in a research career. The application will also contribute to our clinical inpatient service at least a few weeks a year and participate in our divisional conferences.
The goal of the Associate Chief of Infectious Diseases for Research position is to strengthen and expand translational and clinical research programs within the Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Disease. As part of this goal, the successful candidate will join a cluster of collaborators across our clinical and basic science departments, the Tufts CTSI, and the Tufts University School of Medicine to develop a robust interdisciplinary research program, within and beyond Infectious Diseases and Public Health research. These collaborations will be aimed at developing research expertise both in areas of existing strengths and opportunity for growth within and beyond the Division. As part of a larger ecosystem, the successful candidate will contribute to shaping the research future at Tufts Medicine. Opportunities include collaborating with our partners at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Lowell General Hospital and the Tufts Medicine Integrated Network consisting of 2,300 employed and independent outpatient physicians.
Why join our team?
The Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Disease is experiencing growth across many programs including infections in immunocompromised hosts, infection prevention, antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, medical microbiology, travel medicine, substance use related infections, HIV care, and care for people with tick borne illnesses. The Department of Medicine places compassion, innovation, collegiality, diversity, ethics and caring for each other and our patients at the forefront of what we do. These ideals are embodied and practiced within our Division. The Division offers a thriving environment of faculty scholarship in quality, medical education and research for the purpose of improving patient care.
The Associate Chief of Infectious Diseases for Research role will exist within our rich research environment across all Tufts academic campuses and medical partners. Tufts has robust core facilities, flourishing graduate and medical education, a community of research-focused academics and clinicians, and we are aiming for a structured mentorship and support for all faculty. The Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) has active shared research and education programs with a broad array of partners including the Maine Medical Center, MIT, Northeastern University, the Broad Institute, and others. The Stuart B. Levy Center for Integrated Management of Antimicrobial Resistance [CIMAR], a collaboration of Tufts Medical Center and the Tufts University, aims to protect humanity from the global threat of antimicrobial resistance, is a great example of one of our collaborative programs where we seek to expand with new faculty. These resources and more will be available to support a full range of research and clinical opportunities.
