Our Civil Engineering team is a group of 60 Engineers and Technicians who support private developers, public sector authorities and governments in achieving their aims in shaping our cities to enable, sustain and enhance society.

We provide vital contribution to the planning and design of strategic transport infrastructure within urban environments and linking cities.  At a city level we provide advice to authorities on the resilience of infrastructure systems to meet current and future needs. We define infrastructure strategies required to meet strategic development aspirations within the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework. Our early involvement, often at a masterplanning stage, enables us to inform emerging plans and designs at a conceptual stage, targeting the short, medium and long-term aspirations to ensure completeness and flexibility.

The Opportunity

Arup is looking to recruit a Principal Civil Engineer to join our team in the London office.

Reporting to the Civil Engineering London team leader, you will be responsible for; Managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, planning resources and monitoring commercial performance; Leading the preparation and review of technical deliverables relevant to civil engineering including drawings, reports, specifications and presentations.

This role will also see you line managing a small group of technical staff (engineers and technicians) and supporting professional development.  Contributing to a culture of technical excellence and the development of technical skills within the wider team through planning and delivery of initiatives and training. 

You will also build and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships throughout the duration of projects and beyond, and contributing to client relationship management strategies

Is this role right for you?

A highly motivated individual, your skills and experience will include:

Strong technical background in one or more areas relevant to civil engineering (earthworks, highways, utilities, flood risk and drainage) as a core specialism, as well as a wider interest in a complementary aspect of infrastructure development (planning and project management, sustainability, carbon management, infrastructure resilience, etc). Excellent communication and presentation skills, and an ability to interact with clients and other members of the professional team with confidence Skills to manage a complex and varied workload often involving multiple concurrent projects A track record of successful project completion in UK and/or internationally An ability to motivate and lead others Focus on design excellence and a willingness to contribute to continuous quality improvement
