Provide civil and structural engineering expertise to support operations, maintenance, and capital improvements at NYPA’s overhead/underground transmission and substation facilities. Major practice areas include structural analysis and design, building engineering, geotechnical engineering, civil transmission and substation engineering for power lines, their structures, equipment and foundations, pipe and equipment support design, and general civil engineering (storm water management systems, water supply, sanitary sewers, etc.). Specific skill requirements will depend on the practice area for which expertise is needed in the department. #LI-AS1
Responsibilities Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform basic tasks. Receives some direction for basic tasks. Receives substantial direction and guidance for more complex tasks. Performs research. Prepares design calculations and detail sketches following examples provided by more senior engineers. Prepares portions of project documents. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write simple technical reports with guidance. Knowledge of one or more of the major practice areas within the Civil/Structural Engineering Department gained through college coursework and work experience. Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering ( Other disciplines may be considered) Master’s degree preferred Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam Minimum 2 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, preferably in the utility industry Physical Requirements Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State. Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces, walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground, and perform occasional minor lifting.Military Occupational Specialty Codes
