Associate Commissioner of Policy
Job Description The candidate will serve as Associate Commissioner of Policy; leading the development of policy related to all agency priorities with the Chief Strategy Officer. The candidate will lead ongoing implementation of various high priority and multi-faceted long-term plans for improvement of transportation in New York City and advance Mayoral and agency priorities, which include: Vision Zero; sustainability initiatives (e.g., vehicle electrification strategies and PlaNYC); policy development related to accessibility for people with disabilities; Congestion Pricing; projects related to new mobility (e.g. micro mobility safety and regulation); innovative technologies, economic analyses, and public-private partnerships; state of good repair for New York City infrastructure; and mobility, livability, equity, and project delivery. The Associate Commissioner will also oversee Policy staff managing Federal policy goals, in coordination with Intergovernmental, Legal, and Grants Admin units; assist with the development of agency messaging and communications; act on behalf of the Commissioner and Chief Strategy Officer, as required, in representing DOTs executive position in key interactions with other agencies and entities; help monitor targets and reviews projects and activities for timeliness; and oversee/supervise staff members of the Policy team providing leadership and guidance as needed .*** IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF ADMINISTRATIVE CITY PLANNER, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST, OR BE ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55A PROGRAM*** Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of full-time experience in city planning, at least eighteen (18) months of which must have been in a managerial capacity; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. However, a baccalaureate degree and eighteen (18) months of managerial experience in city planning is required of all candidates. Graduate work leading to an advance degree in city planning or related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the non-managerial experience on a year-for-year basis. Graduation from an accredited United States Law School may be substituted for two (2) years of non-managerial experience."
