Reports to Title: Associate Director
Summarized Purpose:
An Associate Counsel provides legal advice and support in the drafting, review and negotiate agreements with minimal oversight. Serves as the primary contact (within the department and client-facing) for agreements assigned to their group while working autonomously. Ensures that PPD's best interests are protected at all times and that senior and executive management have the legal information required to make informed decisions and grant approvals for business risks.
Business Area: Patient Advisory Services covering work for the following business units, Site Network: Early and Late Phase, Medical Communication and Pharmacovigilance.
Functions and Other Job Information:
Prepares, negotiates and finalizes PPD Agreements and/or other related documentation across the Business Area.
Assesses legal risks and provides recommendations and alternative mitigating resolutions to departmental and senior management. Makes recommendations to Executive Management with regard to risks, strategies and recommendations upon request.
Develops processes and training, and takes advantage of other departmental improvement opportunities.
Understands and adheres to PPD and Client SOPs, WPDs and other regulations for all aspects of project implementation, execution and closeout.
Supervision
Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Business Relationships
Represents the department as a prime contact on projects. Interacts with colleagues and clients on significant matters often requiring coordination between functional areas. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and advanced degree in law (juris doctorate or equivalent educational model in other jurisdictions).
Previous experience that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to carry out the job (comparable to 2+ years); or an equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
Years of experience are not to be used as the only factor in making employment selection decisions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Meaningful interpersonal expertise and strong attention to detail with proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
Must be flexible and able to reprioritize workload to meet changing project needs
Comprehensive MS Excel and MS Word skills
Excellent English and grammar skills
Excellent analytical and decision based thinking
Capable of drafting and negotiating routine contract provisions autonomously and sophisticated contract provisions, with oversight
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to identify risk and evaluate fact patterns to advise on the application of the law (may require some oversight)
