Job Overview

We are seeking an Associate Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will assist individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders in accordance with their treatment plans, under the close supervision of a Qualified Addiction Professional. You will support clients in improving their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments, facilitate group counseling, and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to help clients achieve their recovery goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Assessment and Treatment Planning:

Participate in the screening and assessment process under the supervision of a licensed counselor or therapist.Develop individualized treatment plans in accordance with State Regulatory and CARF guidelines.Complete correspondence and documentation in a timely manner.

Direct Service Provision:

Adhere to the weekly direct service provision model, ensuring the timely delivery of services.Document all services provided in accordance with regulatory standards, treatment plans, and agency policies.Ensure treatment plans, updates, and discharge summaries are reviewed and countersigned by a Qualified Addiction Professional.

Group Counseling and Client Support:

Facilitate group counseling, education sessions, family conferences, and individual sessions.Address attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that promote recovery, healthy decision-making, and problem-solving.Assist clients through the transition process, completing necessary final correspondence such as transition summaries and plans.

Collaboration and Reporting:

Participate in clinical staffing and team meetings, providing feedback on relevant cases.Maintain positive professional relationships with referral sources, clients, and coworkers.Handle crisis situations as they arise and notify the supervisor as necessary.

Training and Professional Development:

Complete required training as identified in the individualized training plan, achieving 36 hours of training every two years.Demonstrate a commitment to the long-term goals of the company and contribute to the mission of the organization.

Additional Duties:

Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor, Program Director, or senior leadership.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

Required: A trainee that meets the registration, supervision, and professional development requirements set by the Missouri Credentialing Board or the appropriate licensing board for professional counselors, social workers, or psychologists.Preferred: Certification in CADC or equivalent.Illinois Requirements: Must obtain CADC within 2 years and renew as required.Other Requirements: Must be willing to become licensed in additional states as necessary and provide telehealth services.

Additional Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills:

Basic knowledge of case management and rehabilitation techniques for mental health and substance use treatment.Understanding of therapeutic methods, individual differences, and human behavior.Capable of performing individual and group interventions effectively.Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Crisis Management:

Ability to handle crisis situations with professionalism, according to agency policies.Knowledge of applicable regulations and procedures to maintain compliance with program standards.

Employment Requirements:

Successful completion of background check, including criminal record, driving record, and abuse/neglect.Completion of New Hire Orientation and mandatory training (First Aid, CPR, Behavioral Management, etc.).Certification in First Aid and CPR within the first 3 months of employment.Behavioral Management and Crisis Management training completed within specified timeframes.Achieve 36 hours of required training within two years, and 40 hours annually thereafter.Obtain a valid driver’s license in the state of residency.
