Associate Creative Director of Copy
Location: Remote in the US with the ability to work CST/PST hoursType: Salaried position through CellaCompensation Range: $160,000-$170,000 annual salaryOur client's inhouse studio team is looking to bring onboard an Associate Creative Director of Copy to their growing team. Under the leadership of the Creative Director (CD), the Associate Creative Director, Copy (ACD) provides creative leadership, including concepting, scriptwriting, storyboarding, production, and post-production for video and content production. This position will focus on shaping the creative vision for all content-related projects within the in-house agency.The ACD guides the concept development and execution. This person must exhibit outstanding creative judgment, superb expertise in video and content production, and be able to guide their team in achieving the highest possible standards appropriate for all materials regardless of medium. The ACD maintains a working knowledge of clients' business challenges and leads innovative and conceptual solutions to address those challenges. In addition, the ACD is responsible for brand quality control of the team's deliverables. The ACD will directly supervise 2-3 direct reports and lead a larger cross-functional team of external contractors.Responsibilities:This position is a working manager with the following approximate breakdown in Responsibilities: 60% creative direction and execution, 25% team leadership & development including coaching and mentoring staff, and administrative tasks, 15% supporting department initiatives as directed by immediate supervisor, Creative Direction and Execution Translate strategy into meaningful creative across various mediums including video, photography, motion graphics, and animation. Provide creative direction and coaching while partnering with clients and cross-functional teams to accomplish creative objectives. Ensure creative quality control over concepts and execution. Provide (or seek, when appropriate) guidance to ensure consistent alignment with brand standards. Ensure consistent alignment with content and industry best practices. Motivate the team to strive for excellence, consistently delivering high-quality work. Direct the team as a brand advocate, and in partnership with the CD, encourage and develop new interpretations of the brand standards and out-of-the-box approaches to push the verbal and visual identity of the brand. Develop creative strategies as requested to address marketing and business objectives. Lead and mentor the team in the creative process leveraging strategy, research, analytics, and brand insights. Articulate the creative rationale that drives the concept's execution and tactics. Expect the team to push new thinking and challenge cliché or rerun ideas. Confidently and diplomatically steward new ideas through the organization on behalf of the team. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to step in and contribute wherever needed to ensure project success. Effectively manage both upward and downward communication, involving the CD when critical decisions or escalations are necessary. Team Leadership and Development Direct the daily functions of the creative team, ensuring high performance through operational, staffing, organizational, and professional development best practices. Promote a culture that values talent, collaboration, autonomy, and accountability, driving team performance. Develop, coach, and mentor direct reports through formal and informal feedback, including annual performance reviews. Conduct regular one-on-one touch points with direct reports. Provide strategic business advice and insights on best practices. Ensure compliance with all client branding, operational, legal, and regulatory mandates. Foster a collaborative and solution-oriented mentality within the team. Encourage skill development and recognize team contributions. Build a collective team vision and define goals and objectives. Lead with passion to energize the team and achieve high employee engagement and job satisfaction. Pursue continuous learning opportunities for the team. Address staff performance issues proactively and celebrate successes. Client Service Build strong relationships with clients and be perceived as a credible, trusted advisor. Partner with clients to achieve effective outcomes in an efficient manner. Work with clients to articulate creative needs concisely yet completely. Appropriately balance client desires, business requirements, and marketing strategies. Find common ground with clients when debating creative or strategic opinions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; MFA preferred, preferably in design, advertising, or related field. Minimum of 7 years professional experience required. Minimum of 3 years management experience leading teams of creatives required. Portfolio required. In-house agency experience required. External agency experience desired. Experience in video production and content creation for Fortune 500 corporations is strongly preferred. Oil/Gas or Energy industry experience is desired. Skills:  Thinks strategically, critically, and creatively. Hands-on agency experience in video production, scriptwriting, and content creation. Action-oriented with the ability to prioritize and drive results. Ability to influence and/or negotiate when selling in ideas. Excellent working knowledge of video production, scriptwriting, and content creation best practices and their application. Strong creative portfolio demonstrating breadth of video production, scriptwriting, and content creation. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to all levels of the organization. Ability to anticipate problems and collaborate across teams and projects to find the best agency solution. Strong understanding of video production and content creation best practices, tools, and technology. Collaborative influencer with a clear POV and ability to establish rapport with peers. Proven leadership skills to maximize team talents. Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software. Experience using project management software. Experienced working within defined content creation processes and applying industry best practices for new content. Demonstrated creative conceptualization skills.
