Job Posting Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs plays a pivotal role in the academic and personal development of students. This position supports the creation of a vibrant and inclusive campus environment that fosters student success, well-being, and engagement. The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to enhance the overall student experience through various programs, services, and initiatives, with a particular focus on Community Standards & Student Conduct as well as Residential Life and Campus Life.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Community Standards & Student Conduct:
+ Play a leading role in the strategic development, interpretation, and implementation of policies and procedures related to student conduct, including managing budgets and supervising related personnel
+ Investigate alleged code violations, complaints and/or grievances
+ Recommend appropriate disciplinary action to the Vice President of Student Affairs in student conduct matters
+ Coordinate the implementation of proactive measures that encourage a better understanding of and compliance with the Student Code of Conduct by faculty, staff and students
+ Serve as a resource and consultant for student conflict resolution
+ Lead the CARE (Concern, Assessment, Response, Evaluation) team in supporting students through a proactive, collaborative, and thoughtful approach to identification, assessment, and early intervention of troublesome or concerning behaviors that impact the University community
+ Maintain statistical reports, confidential disciplinary files, publications and/or any other educational sanctioning programs
+ Works with Security/Safety in resolving student conflicts
+ Provide regular and timely updates to the VPSA on open cases
+ Meet with students, faculty, legal affairs, Office of the President, community members, and others, as appropriate, for consultation, education, and problem solving
Residential Life:
+ Working with the Director of Residential Life, provide leadership and direction for residential life programs that promote academic success, personal growth, and community building within the residence halls
+ Oversee the implementation and evaluation of residential support services, including housing assignments, rooming policies, and resident assistant programs
+ Develop and manage initiatives that address the diverse needs of residential students, ensuring an inclusive and supportive living environment
+ Serve as a resource and advocate for residential students, addressing their concerns and issues in a timely and effective manner
Campus Life:
+ Working with the Director of Campus Life, design, implement, and assess campus life programs and activities that enhance student engagement and retention
+ Coordinate with various campus departments to develop and support co-curricular activities, student organizations, and leadership opportunities
+ Manage budgets and resources for campus life programs, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with institutional goals
+ Evaluate the effectiveness of campus life programs and services, making data-driven recommendations for improvements
Leadership and Collaboration:
+ The Associate Dean is a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team that collectively assists the Vice President of Student Affairs in developing and implementing the strategic vision for the division of Student Affairs
+ Foster a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility among faculty, staff, and students
+ Lead and mentor residential life and campus life staff, providing professional development opportunities and fostering a supportive work environment
+ Represent the division of student affairs on various campus committees and task forces
+ Act as a member of the Care Team, addressing student concerns and coordinating support services for students in need
Compliance and Crisis Management:
+ Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulations related to residential life and campus life
+ Develop and implement crisis intervention and management protocols, providing support and guidance during emergencies within residential and campus settings
+ Coordinate with Campus Safety and other relevant departments to ensure the safety and well-being of students
+ Serve as a point of contact for parents and families, providing information and addressing concerns as needed
+ Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
+ Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs or a related field
+ Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and assessment
+ Proven track record of effective leadership and collaboration with diverse campus constituencies
+ Experience in crisis management and student support services preferred
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
+ Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
+ Ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to complex challenges
+ Ability to travel between locations
+ Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the campus community
+ Proficiency in using technology and data analysis to inform decision-making and program development
Education Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field required
+ Master’s degree in student personnel services or related field preferred

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
