Vacancy Announcement Position Information Campus Title Associate Dean (School of Business) Department School of Business Position Summary The Associate Dean in the School of Business is the chief assistant to the Dean in the areas of academic, personnel, and administrative affairs of the School and makes decisions for the School in the absence of the Dean. The Associate Dean is also key in strategic planning, school operation, and accreditation. The Associate Dean creates an efficient, cost-effective course schedule and oversees major student issues. The Associate Dean assists the Dean in promoting and supporting teaching and scholarly excellence among the faculty, updating and developing academic and co-curricular programs to achieve the strategic goals of the School and the College. The person holding this position must be student-centered, passionate about academic excellence, and deeply committed to promoting a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and multicultural community.
This is a 12-month Management Confidential position. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the School of Business and is required to work on campus full-time. Required Qualifications Required Qualifications:
A terminal degree (PhD, DBA, or JD) in a business-related discipline from an accredited university. Have a solid teaching, research, and service record sufficient to merit appointment as a tenured associate professor or full professor in the School of Business. Be scholarly or professionally qualified per the School’s AACSB faculty qualification standards. Demonstrate strong communication and team-building skills. Ability to collaborate collegially with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, Preferred Qualifications Demonstrate a record of progressive leadership in such roles as program coordinators or department chairs. Experience with student learning outcome assessment. Experience with course scheduling and curriculum development. Merit appointment as a tenured full professor in the School of Business. Quick Link for Postings https://jobs.geneseo.edu/postings/4920 Job Duties/Responsibilities Job Duties/Responsibilities Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty/ Responsibility Course Scheduling Oversee the creation of academic schedules, including summer and winter sessions, by collaborating closely with area coordinators, the Director of Student Services, faculty members, and the Registrar’s Office, following the college guidelines. Ensure full-time faculty members are optimally and fully deployed for teaching and the schedule is designed fairly and equitably. Collaborate with area coordinators to hire qualified adjunct faculty to meet student needs within the allocated adjunct budget. Communicate academic schedules and necessary changes with faculty members in a timely manner. Work with the Dean to identify and implement greater efficiency and effectiveness in school operations and faculty deployment. Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty/ Responsibility Curriculum and Cocurricular Activities Recommend and monitor the implementation of closing-the-loop activities in courses and programs to enhance student learning. Collaborate with faculty members and the Dean to update and develop curriculum and programs to ensure currency and relevancy and to improve and enrich the School’s offerings. Work with the Dean and the Provost’s Office to coordinate the development of articulation agreements with community colleges and other partner institutions. Oversee the implementation and improvement of the GOLD Professional Development program. Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty/ Responsibility Students Lead the Business Excellence program. Collaborate with the Director of Student Services to oversee student advising and decide on course waivers, substitutions, credit transfer, grade change requests, and other major student issues. Coordinate with the Dean of Students and the Provost’s Office to intervene and manage the resolution of student problems, including academic dishonesty, student complaints, and other academic and conduct cases, following protocols established by College policy. Confer with faculty to review student grade appeals and render decisions. Communicate decisions to all involved parties. Serve on the Academic Standards Committee as the representative of the School of Business. Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty/ Responsibility Accreditation and Assurance of Learning Serve as a leader of the school’s assurance of learning (AoL) activities and co-chair the AoL committee. Oversee and monitor data entry, collection, and analysis of faculty annual activity reports. In charge of filling out the AACSB annual survey. Work with the Dean to manage and prepare reports required for AACSB re-accreditation. Maintain currency in accreditation requirements. Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty/ Responsibility Other School and College Services Serve as a member of the School Administrative Team. Serve as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. Administer School policies and adhere to College policies and procedures. Represent the School on College-wide committees as necessary. Attend events as a representative of the Dean’s Office as needed. Maintain scholarly or professional qualifications (SA or PA) per the School’s AACSB faculty qualification standards. Lead the School in the Dean’s absence.
