Purpose

The Associate Director, Clinical Quality will be a leader in the development and implementation of UT Health Austin's clinical quality and patient safety programs.

ResponsibilitiesClinical Quality

Develop a conceptual framework for quality measurement and improvement activities across the clinical enterprise. Perform gap analysis that will inform the strategic direction of the quality program.

Together with administrative and faculty leadership, build and lead a clinical quality team, providing supervision and mentorship.

Prepare reports, develop and deliver presentation with appropriate visualizations and data analysis. Develop clinical quality activities that include measurement, data analysis, and reporting.

Support UTHA clinical quality structure, including Clinical Quality Committee and other subcommittees. Utilize change management principles to guide successful implementation of clinical quality initiatives. Identify trends, prioritize and recommend improvements.

Implement Tracers with AMP for accreditation readiness and operational excellence. Ensure processes are in place to provide oversight and surveillance for the safe provision of high quality, patient-focused, outcomes-based clinical care.

Patient Safety

Review all patient safety events, oversee follow-up and analysis as indicated, and close out reports. Conduct root cause analysis as indicated.

Communicate with stakeholders as indicated.

Manage and refine Symplr Safety system.

Collaboration

Work collaboratively with the Policy Coordinator to identify needed policies. Work collaboratively with the Staff Development team when staff education needs are identified to develop, implement, and participate in training.

Participate in clinical and departmental committees and group meetings with a focus improving quality and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Work closely with the Patient Experience Coordinator for service recovery and event mitigation. Participate in operational process improvement activities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with at least ten years of clinical nursing experience and at least three years of experience in healthcare quality. Active Texas nursing license. Solid knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulation and policy, national accrediting standards, and quality improvement methodologies. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of other health care professionals and leaders. Possess strong quantitative and qualitative analytical and critical thinking skills, with ability to synthesize information from many sources to develop recommendations. Record of leadership, team building, project management, and collaboration. Ability to effectively facilitate and lead working groups and training sessions. Act as the primary support contact for quality dashboard and report development. Identify issues that arise in their application area as well as issues that impact other application teams and work to resolve them. Guide workflow design, testing systems and analyzing other technical issues. Develop an understanding of operational needs to set the direction for the organization’s process and quality improvement. Troubleshoot problems and questions with leaders, staff, and providers. Review the status of projects and issues on an ongoing basis with leadership. Effective us of QI and project management tools to manage analytics projects. If not currently certified, CPHQ certification coursework must be started with one year of employment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or other advanced clinical degree. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).

Salary Range

$110,000+ depending on qualifications
