Read more: careers.bms.com/working-with-us . **Position Summary** The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the EHS Lead for the BMS Libertyville Facility within the Department of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS). The individual in this role will be responsible for leading the company's environmental, health and safety (EHS) efforts within the Facility to drive long-term company and stakeholder value. The position will develop, plan, organize, and execute EHS programs, policies, procedures, and training to maintain a safe, health, and environmental compliant facility. This position plays a key role in aligning corporate and local policies and procedures and will enable and foster a proactive and integrated EHS culture that promotes a positive, proactive approach throughout all operations. **Key Responsibilities:** The EHS Lead will advocate, coach, coordinate, implement, assess, and improve environmental, safety and health outcomes using global and local regulations and consensus guides, BMS management systems, policies and procedures, and promote compliant, forward-leaning culture and preserve BMS' reputation while driving shared Company objectives. + Partner with leadership teams to integrate safety and environmental management systems into operations, as measured by performance metrics. + Develop productive working relationships with federal, state and local authorities, technical and industrial groups and consultants to keep abreast of pending requirements and interpretations of existing rules. + Lead site and/or local area audits for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DEP, etc.). + Translate Corporate and Divisional standards and guides into appropriate site procedures. + Track and report safety and environmental metrics. + Maintain liaison with outside organizations, peer companies and agencies as necessary to assure compliance and communication in the areas of emergency response, regulatory bodies, professional societies, and industrial groups. + Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, safety and medical surveillance laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus guides. + Develop and implement new EHS programs, policies, and procedures and update and improve existing ones. + Provide applicable regulatory and technical practical guidance and execute programs, policies, procedures, and trainings for biological safety, laboratory safety, chemical safety, industrial hygiene, and high risk work activities related to construction and maintenance. + Execute Management of Change (MOC) program for EHS to include EHS Impact Assessments and Change Requests. + Participates in EHS operational and tier discussions, EHS committees and teams; and EHS self-assessments, inspections, GEMBAs, and audits. + Review and ensure accurate and complete resolution of issues as they arise and escalates concerns, resource constraints, needs, with urgency to appropriate leaders in the organization. + Stops operations and activities that could harm the environment, workforce, or facilities. + Utilize and manage site platforms for investigations, reporting, inspection, and other management system platforms and their outcomes. + Participate in and show leadership in an EHS culture at the site that partners with operational teams to ensure all are accountable for EHS culture and performance, modeling what good looks like. + Proactively collaborates at site and above-site levels. + Conducts Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) reviews against BMS standards and applicable compliance standards, identifies gaps, and completed actions against gaps identified in a systemic fashion using appropriate quality and EHS system tools for documentation and CAPA tracking purposes. + Brings new approaches to continually improve the effectiveness of workflows and processes and learn and apply new concepts. + Helps to coach and mentor team members during day-to-day operations. + Act as the EHS point-of-contact for the facility. + Investigates causes of industrial accidents and/or injuries to develop systemic solutions to minimize or prevent recurrence. **Qualifications & Experience** + Bachelor of Science degree in science or engineering. + A Master's / Graduate degree in a relevant discipline is desired. + A minimum of 10 years of previous Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) experience in a research or manufacturing facility. + A minimum of 3 years leadership with direct reports. + Previous experience in chemical or pharmaceutical industry is preferred. + Professional license or certification; RBP (Registered Biosafety Professional), CBP (Certified Biosafety Professional, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), desired. + Proven experience in biosafety, such as review of research protocols, development of a biosafety manual, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBC), and Institutional Research Boards (IRB) to ensure compliance with the National Institute of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other standards for recombinant DNA and vaccine research. + Six Sigma Certification (Green belt or above) desired. + Ability to influence and drive a sustainable EHS culture. + Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and EHS systems like ENABLON (or similar). + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to attend to multiple high priority items simultaneously and think creatively, critically, and strategically to solve problems in a complex environment with both urgency and agility, calmly. + Ability to work within a remote, matrix environment and leading a multi-level team to achieve high performance standards WORKING CONDITIONS + Typical daily activities are within the office environment. + The incumbent may be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and face shields. + The incumbent will be required to walk for extended periods of time, up to 2 hours per day. + The incumbent must be able to travel for business up to 5% of the time. \#LI-Onsite \#BMSCart \#Veteran If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn't perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway.
