Associate Director, Housing & Residential Life Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedAssociate Director, Housing & Residential Lifeat its Detroit campus location. Position Purpose: Under the direction of the Senior Director, Housing & Residential Life, the Associate Director - in collaboration with department leaders - provides leadership and direction to the staff and educational programs in University residence halls and apartments. Participates with University partners in student life and success initiatives; oversees residential leadership development and resident self-governance; trains and ensures staff and residents comply with residential regulations and the University's Code of Conduct. Essential Functions: Provides overall leadership and direction to staff, including student staff. Sets expectations, focus, and professional development plans. Provides coaching, mentoring and teaching to ensure staff meet industry standards. Manages the ‎‎administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, ‎promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures ‎and salary ‎‎adjustments. Provides ongoing performance feedback, goal setting, and development plans for staff. ‎‎‎Plan for future staffing needs. Provides timely communications Participates in the development and execution of programs and events for University owned residence halls and apartment buildings with focus on leadership, student development and promotion of inclusion, equity, and belonging. Work with the Housing & Residential Life leadership team to coordinate the implementation of policies and procedures related to facilities and operations. Ensures staff participation and cooperation in marketing efforts, assessment, move-in/move-out activities, and in addressing facility and operational needs. Oversees hall and apartment student conduct processes, which include counseling, advising, mediation and referral to campus resources. Works closely with the campus police, student conduct officers and the Dean of Students Office in the coordination of the resident conduct process. Participates in campus wide and departmental task forces and committees as assigned. Serves as liaison to internal and external constituents representing Housing interests as necessary. Provides advice regarding policy and procedures; attends meetings, conferences and seminars. Maintains memberships in pertinent professional organizations. Participates in planning and organizing departmental goals, objectives and budget. Responsible for maintaining budget assigned to area of responsibility. Serves, as part of the management team, in the weekend and evening on-call rotation. Provides response to emergencies when needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Master’s degree Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Student Development, Student Personnel or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience) Minimum three years’ experience with student developmental issues and strategies for implementing a comprehensive college/university residential program. Minimum of five years in progressively responsible roles. Experience demonstrating strong organizational, communication and problem solving skills required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP : Ability and willingness to make independent decisions, exhibiting sound and accurate judgment. Demonstrated ability to motivate professional staff and students. SUPERVISORY SKILLS : Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train, develop, assess and offer feedback to staff members. Ability to foster teamwork among staff members. PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS : Ability to prepare and present special projects with little or no supervision/oversight. Ability to meet deadlines and to take large complex projects and divide them into smaller achievable tasks organized into a plan. Strong, detail-oriented project management skills. COMMUNICATION SKILLS : Effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both orally and in writing. Ability to present information clearly and professionally one-on-one and in groups; ability to serve as a public face for the department within the University and to external audiences. ANALYTICAL SKILLS : Ability to make valid and reliable evaluation of information. Demonstrated attention to detail. LEARNING AGILITY : Independent and innovative self-starter who can display an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations.
