Associate Director, Innovation Credit

Lending into the innovation space is a new investment capability being developed by HSBC Asset Management (“AM”) following the creation of HSBC Innovation Banking. The Venture Debt capability will form part of the AM Private Credit platform, a key growth area for HSBC Alternatives.

Initially the Associate Director-Innovation Credit will contribute towards the development and launch of a new Venture Debt fund. This will involve supporting capital raising and the promotion of Venture Debt in front of clients, promoting the Venture Debt capability to sales teams and preparing fund or ad-hoc marketing documents.

Following the first closing of the fund, the role holder will work with the Innovation Bank teams to undertake the assessment and analysis of Venture Debt transactions for recommendation to the Investment Committee and the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio. For new transactions the role holder will work with the Innovation banking teams to review information memorandums, business plans, third party due diligence reports and financial models. The individual will manage transactions in conjunction with HSBC Innovation Banking and external stakeholders to ensure investments are completed in an efficient manner.

As our Associate Director-Innovation Credit you will:

Support capital raising for fund launches and represent Venture Debt in front of clients and consultants. Promote the Venture Debt capability to sales teams. Help prepare fund or ad-hoc marketing documents. Assist in the production of ad-hoc research papers for marketing purposes
Contribute effectively to screening and due diligence on new transactions, including the review of information memorandums and sales documentation, 3rd party due diligence (financial, commercial, legal and tax structuring reports) and building/ testing assumptions of financial models provided
Ensure proposed transactions are in-line with policy and investment restrictions
Monitor key performance indicators and financial performance of all portfolio loans managed
Maintain contact with portfolio companies through sponsors and management teams (directly and where appropriate, alongside HSBC Innovation banking) to assess financial needs, condition, opportunities/risks facing their business
Keep up to date with market developments/deal flow
Participate in the definition and implementation of procedures locally
Represent the Venture Debt franchise in industry events and other forums as required, in a manner that positively enhances AM’s brand image

For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $113,900.00 and $170,800.00

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

4 years experience working in Venture Debt, with a proven track record in business development, research and/or portfolio management
Investigational/analytical mindset. Ability to analyze processes to make improvements
Experience of engaging with senior managers across disciplines (investment teams, product, sales, legal and marketing) to discuss and deliver the execution of strategic initiatives
Strong problem solving skills
Good understanding of the product strategy and development lifecycle and experience managing highly complex processes
Good knowledge of investment vehicles and strategies, combined with a strong understanding of current and future market developments
Strong team player with the ability to work cohesively and collaboratively across the organization
Experience working to tight deadlines and being able to effectively prioritize and delegate
