Associate Director, Public Interest Alumni Services - Office of Public Interest and Community Service

Requirements

Created in 1996, the Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS) is the hub of the public interest community at Georgetown, and seeks to foster in all law students a commitment to service that will continue through their legal careers. In addition to coordinating many of the Law Center’s public interest programs, OPICS is the primary career office for students interested in exploring public interest and government legal opportunities. The office also administers the Law Center’s extensive pro bono program, which encourages and facilitates pro bono legal service by students and other members of the Law Center community.

The Associate Director, Public Sector Alumni Services serves the career planning and professional development needs of alumni pursuing careers in the public sector. The Associate Director is part of the Office of Public Interest and Community Service, reporting to the Assistant Dean of OPICS, and works very closely with the Director of Alumni Services in the Office of Career Strategy. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

Provide career advising to alumni interested in public sector careers, as well as creating resources, programming, and workshops for alumni interested in public sector careers.

Work closely with the Assistant Director, Public Interest Employer & Alumni Outreach to conduct outreach to alumni in the public sector to build connections for other alumni and current students, as well as to expand job opportunities for both.

Coordinate outreach at alumni events with the Director of Alumni Services, working together to ensure resources, programming, and workshops meet the needs of alumni.

Act as the primary person in OPICS focused on alumni, allowing other advisors to stay focused on current students.

Work Interactions
The Associate Director of Public Sector Alumni Services’ primary mission is to serve the needs of alumni interested in public sector careers through advising, programming, online resources, work shops and networking. The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Dean of OPICS, and works very closely with the Director of Alumni Services in OCS. The Associate Director will also work closely with other advisors in order to connect current students with alumni who can serve as informal advisors and sources of leads/potential positions. The Associate Director will work in concert with the Assistant Director, Public Interest Employer & Alumni Outreach to ensure a seamless alumni services and outreach plan is implemented. This position is essential in supporting the mission of OPICS. The Associate Director will serve the needs of alumni, who will in turn offer expanded opportunities for current students. This position is being created so that a professional can be solely focused on alumni needs and connections. Alumni are often an untapped source of opportunities for one another as well as current students.

Requirements and Qualifications

A J.D. and at least 5 years experience advising law students and/or working in a public interest law practice, before or after law school

Demonstrated commitment to equity and cultural sensitivity as well as experience using an equity lens in their professional work and/or personal lives

Experience and/or training in counseling, coaching, or advising lawyers or law students (including peers or mentees) in navigating public interest career paths, including the transition from the private to the public sector

Demonstrated ability to communicate with, listen to, and hold space for people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including those different from their own

Experience with project management, collaboration, and relationship building

Comfort navigating, or willingness to learn how to use, programs like MailChimp, LinkedIn, and GSuite

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
