Job Description

The Search and Evaluation group actively supports the global Business Development (BD) goals by executing on strategic opportunities from academic institutions, biotech/ pharma companies and venture firms for potential research collaborations, in-licensing/ out-licensing assets, venture investments, and company acquisitions. The group is responsible for leading the global search efforts for assets of high strategic value aligning with the needs of AbbVie R&D organization’s pipeline goals, and conducting thorough technical due diligence to ensure an in-depth understanding of the science behind each of the those opportunities.

The Associate Director, Search & Evaluation will support these efforts through development of required analytics, coordinate due diligence efforts, and assemble inputs from internal / external stakeholders as well as keep communication channels open with cross-functional teams across AbbVie.

Responsibilities -

Search and Evaluation:
-   Proactively search, identify and evaluate potential opportunities across one or more therapeutic areas that include research collaboration, in-licensing and out-licensing preclinical and clinical assets, platform technologies and research tools that are consistent with external business development strategies for the advancement of AbbVie’s pipeline, and driving sustainable growth for the Company.Due Diligence:
-    Create, optimize, and coordinate due diligence process for both in-licensing/ out-licensing projects across one or multiple therapeutic and scientific areas.
-    Responsible for tracking progress of diligence activities and assist in creating high quality, clear and concise due diligence reports and presentations with recommendations to AbbVie’s Senior Management team.Communication:
 -   Build and leverage a network of key stakeholders across R&D; Work constructively to ensure effective communication, efficient decision-making, and completion of transactions in a timely manner.Facilitate effective and timely communication, requiring minimal guidance of area director, with internal and external partners, including ensuring appropriate access to due diligence documentation / data rooms.Ensures consistency of due diligence communication materials (e.g. reports, initial technical assessment documents) across projects with emphasis on process continuity, where appropriate.Operations Management:
Responsible for monitoring and tracking licensing projects against approved timelines and milestones, and ensures that team adheres to agreed-upon team objectives and deliverables.Fully leverages new and existing external and internal IT tools (e.g. Inova) to support the operations of the growing S&E group as it relates to tracking incoming opportunities.
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related scientific field required (e.g. PhD, PharmD, MD).2+ years of drug development or Business Development work experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries requiredStrong Project management/ leadership skills to lead/manage multifunctional teams to evaluate target opportunities, and produce high quality analyses. Ability to drive projects to deliver timely results and follow through on commitments.Must possess basic knowledge of generally accepted Business Development practices, e.g. financial, contracting, governance review.Must possess a solid foundation in drug discovery processes, with in depth knowledge of at least one aspect of Drug Development (e.g., pre-clinical research, clinical development, Regulatory Affairs, Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls (CMC)).Experience with conducting due diligence exercises within a scientific environment preferred.Highly motivated professional with strong organizational and communication skills, excellent work ethic, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

External: Partnering companies, BD from other pharma, Biotechs, Academic institutions.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
