Posting Number S-3471 Position Number 75840 Type of Recruitment External Position Title ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR/APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT Position Summary The Associate Director of Application Development leads development and execution for multiple technologies including custom developed applications. This role manages the team and guides the efforts of technology teams across multiple functional units. In addition to software development, integration of services/platforms, delivery and deployment, this role is responsible for maturing the development process to include DevOps best practices and avoiding single points of failure within the development and operational process. This individual in this position attracts, retains and develops the highest quality talent, provides strong technical guidance to ensure the right technology and architecture decisions being made and provides continuous improvement to the team’s product deliveries. Serving as a leader in promoting and supporting technology at CMU, the Associate Director works closely with functional peers and support teams to advance the innovative and effective application of technology to the academic mission of CMU while aligning solutions to CMU’s enterprise architecture. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience that equates to a bachelor’s degree.
Five years of direct work experience in software development including all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
Experience integrating custom developed solutions with ERP/SIS systems like SAP, Peoplesoft or Ellucian Banner.
Ability to lead the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) using Agile and Iterative Development methodologies.
Knowledge of SQL, C#, Web Services, JavaScript and Microsoft Web.Net technologies.
Must have good administrative and communication skills (oral and written) and and the ability to interface effectively with students, faculty, and staff, which includes functional and technical teams.
Must be able to learn, understand and apply new technologies.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Preferred Qualifications One year of direct, hands-on management experience leading development teams.
Experience with ITIL framework.
Familiarity with Office 365, Azure DevOps, Gitlab and SAP.
Experience developing in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
Experience working in higher education. Duties & Responsibilities Leads the software engineering and application development teams.
Responsible for all reviews, studies, estimates, and implementations of new applications systems and major changes.
Identifies operational efficiencies by streamlining and automating processes, reducing redundancies and unneeded process steps.
Manages the life-cycle of application/software (i.e. software upgrade, patch/service pack maintenance, licenses, etc.).
Develops best practices and tools for software and platform integration.
Effectively defines and communicates project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluating and scheduling of personnel.
Coaches, mentors, motivates team members, including performance management, professional development and policy & procedures administration and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Participates in meetings and workshops with stakeholders to ensure that there are no gaps or inconsistencies in the initial business process solution architectural design.
Oversees the development and implementation of the overall strategic vision and integration of broad range ideas regarding business analysis, system analysis, application development, and quality assurance and testing capabilities.
Assumes all other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Enterprise Applications.
