Associate Director for Basic Science
*Associate Director for Basic Science* The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) is accepting nominations/applications for an Associate Director for Basic Science. The associate director should ideally be an established, NIH funded investigator at the associate professor level or above. The director will be a member of UMGCCC senior leadership with significant leadership responsibilities across the basic science enterprise of UMGCCC. The associate director will also carry significant responsibilities within the UMGCCC NCI Cancer Center Support grant. The ideal candidate will: * Have an established track record of peer-reviewed extramural research funding and national/international reputation as evidenced by service on national, regional, and local organizations and societies. * Possess strategic and innovative thinking abilities to identify research gaps and anticipate research directions and opportunities. * Have exceptional leadership and mentorship skills to advance careers of faculty, trainees, and staff. * Foster awareness and support of cancer center initiatives to support inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and cancer health equity efforts throughout the institution. * Demonstrate ability to understand and advance the needs of UMGCCC throughout the basic science, translational and clinical research enterprises to benefit the population of UMGCCC’s catchment area. * Have substantial experience with the allocation of research facility space and scientific and financial resources. * Have excellent oral and written communication skills. In accordance with NCI guidelines, responsibilities of the associate director include effective scientific leadership that provides intellectual stimulation, cohesion, focus, and direction and promotes research that has a high degree of clinical, scientific, and/or policy impact; stimulation of interactions within the membership, Shared Resources, and Research Programs at the institution, and with researchers at other institutions that lead to collaborative research projects, joint publications, colloquia, joint seminar series, and other evidence of meaningful interchange around related or common goals; and exercise good judgement in use of funds to support these and other scientific activities. UMGCCC includes five research programs: Experimental Therapeutics, Hormone Responsive Cancers, Molecular and Structural Biology. Population Science, and Tumor Immunology and Immunotherapy. UMGCCC Shared Resources include: A GMP laboratory, Biostatistics, Flow Cytometry, Genomics, Imaging, Pathology & Biorepository, Structural Biology and the Translational Laboratory. There are also two developing Shared Resources: Cancer Informatics and Radiometry. The Cancer Center includes researchers from the University of Maryland Baltimore Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Social Work, and Law; the University of Maryland College Park Schools of Public Health, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and Engineering; the University of Maryland Baltimore County College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; and Morgan State University Schools of Community Health and Policy and Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences. Cancer researchers with diverse expertise from these institutions work together to further the mission of UMGCCC.
