We are looking for a skilled, personable, and adaptable leader to join the Office of Human Resources team.
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Human Resources, this position assists in providing direction and accountability in the execution of human resource services and activities and supervises the functional areas of benefits and payroll for SUNY Geneseo. This position provides primary employee relations support and guidance to supervisors and staff on a range of matters including application of collective bargaining agreements, informal and formal coaching and counseling, performance management, workplace investigations, union grievances, and administers the disciplinary process, as appropriate.
Oversees the Colleges performance management system providing guidance for development of performance programs and delivery of performance evaluations for supervisors and employees. Will collaborate with the HR team and key stakeholders to develop and maintain an automated system for performance management tools, including dashboards and reports that provide metrics for supervisors regarding completion rates during evaluation rating cycles.
Provides leadership and coaching to immediate direct reports. The Associate Director will supervise the functional areas of benefits and payroll services.

This involves assessing current organizational and HR related policies for their applicability and relevance, ensuring that policies remain current. Assists with the development, review, revision, and implementation of HR related policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution At least three (3) years of full-time equivalent work experience in labor and employee relations Documented experience handling minor and complex employee relations (both disciplinary and non-disciplinary employment) actions to include conflict management and/or resolution experience, and ER best practices Tact, discretion, professionalism and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain high level of confidentiality Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of human resource administration Experience supervising staff Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing Ability to manage a complex workload within a dynamic environment Strong organizational skills to independently manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines effectively Demonstrated commitment in providing exceptional customer service Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working in the public sector, unionized environment, preferably in higher education is preferred Experience working with an Human Resources Information System (HRIS) system Experience working with automated performance management system SHRM or other HR certification License/Certification Other Skills Required

Percentage Of Time 15% Job Duty/ Responsibility Oversees the Colleges performance management system providing guidance for development of performance programs and delivery of performance evaluations for supervisors and employees. Will collaborate with the HR team and key stakeholders to develop and maintain an automated system for performance management tools, including dashboards and reports that provide metrics for supervisors regarding completion rates during evaluation rating cycles. Percentage Of Time 25% Job Duty/ Responsibility Provides oversight and supervision for HR staff who administer the benefits and payroll services functions. Provides oversight for Benefits Administrator who administers health benefits and employee onboarding including completion of paperwork, oversight for the setup, maintenance and terminations of employee accounts on the NYBEAS system. Administers the retirement benefits process as well as performs employee retirement planning, administration and processing of retirement transactions.
Oversight for payroll includes for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Payroll Office including the timely preparation of the following biweekly payrolls: Regular State, College Work Study, Student Temporary Service, and Graduate/ Teaching Assistant payrolls. The payroll staff also administer the employee leave management program for medical leaves encompassing FMLA/non-FMLA and Worker’s Compensation processes. Supplemental Questions
