Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine PA Program is accepting applications for the position of Associate Director of Didactic Education. Our program offers a small class size as well as an interprofessional educational model of teaching PA and medical students. Our teaching hospital, Boston Medical Center affords clinical practice in the largest safety net hospital in New England.
FTE and Rank: 1.0 (0.8 PA Program, 0.2 Clinical Time) Instructor or Assistant Professor, depending on experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position, non-tenure.
Responsibilities: Working with the Director of Didactic Education and the Associate Director of Didactic Education, the second Associate Director of Didactic Education assists in directing the didactic phase of the program. Duties include mentoring students, teaching as well as administrative duties. Oversight of the didactic phase including the development, monitoring and assessment of the didactic curriculum, working with course directors and lectures as well as giving course performance feedback to course directors. They assist with curriculum review for compliance with ARC-PA Standards in accordance with program process. Remediation of didactic students and providing strategies for academic success is included. Clinical interests may vary and will be supported with protected time (0.2FTE).
Teaching responsibilities include serving as co-course directors for PS 744 Preventative Medicine course, our new health equity course, Social Concentration and Outreach Research Experience (SCORE) as well as Advanced Clinical Medicine Course. Other opportunities for teaching maybe available depending on their skills and interests. There is also teaching in PS 704 Introduction to Clinical Medicine. Administrative duties include participation in program and University committees. Additional service outside the university is encouraged. Required Skills
Prerequisites: Successful candidates will hold a master’s degree, have excellent communication and organization skills and excel in a team environment. They must be eligible for PA licensure in Massachusetts and NCCPA board certified. A minimum of 5 years in clinical practice and two years’ experience in PA education is preferred as is a documented record of academic leadership and the ability to mentor graduate students.
