This position's work location is fully remote with the ocassional time onsite as needed. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

 

The Associate Director of Network Development & Growth is responsible for strategic growth activities in the department of Business Strategy.

 

The Associate Director will be skilled in finance, data analytics, project management, and will have had experience working on healthcare transactions, healthcare strategy, and healthcare growth initiatives. The Associate Director will support the Vice President of Network Development & Clinical Growth on business development and transactions across the clinical enterprise, leading the associated strategy, business planning, negotiation, project management, contracting and analytic support.

This includes:

(a) new/regional campus business development and campus expansion business strategy,

(b) Dana-Farber’s domestic affiliate network, and (c) strategies for regional/domestic clinical growth, and (d) clinical joint ventures. 

 

The Associate Director will be responsible for the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of clinical business initiatives, working closely with clinical and administrative leaders and staff.  The Associate Director and their team will conduct analyses and provide expertise to inform internal strategic clinical investments (e.g., major capital project, new clinical services).

This individual will work closely with the executive team, directors, managers and clinical leaders to identify and implement growth opportunities and facilitate positive and cooperative business interactions with key stakeholders and potential partners.

The Associate Director will support the execution of Dana-Farber’s multi-year network growth strategy and will collaborate with institutional leadership to align corporate development strategies with overall business strategy priorities.

Responsibilities

Clinical Network Business/Corporate Development and Growth Planning

Responsible for clinical network strategies to address growth opportunities, risks and gaps, that may address marketing/communications strategies, growth strategies, and other considerations.Project management of growth initiatives and growth planning.Leads the development certain robust analyses and strategic business plans focused on identifying, planning and monitoring clinical network growth and potentially new/expanded clinical services.Conducts ad hoc research and due diligence relating to new clinical ventures and opportunities.Synthesizes quantitative and qualitative information.Utilize data analytics to drive decisions and inform business cases.For associated strategies and monitoring, lead development of financial and volume projections for business case development and leadership sign-off.Work with other team members to develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators associated with network and corporate development activities.Independently plans and facilitates large meetings and workgroups with faculty and senior management across multiple departments.Work with clinical leadership and administrative leadership at existing sites and within existing departments on growth planning for initiatives such as space expansion, hiring additional resources/FTEs, or offering new clinical programs, and support business case development and financial analyses for such initiatives.

Corporate and Business Development

Develop and implement corporate and business development strategies to drive overall business growth and achieve clinical growth objectives.Support the development, execution and oversight of growth and business develop strategies to optimize for institutional and business growth, which may include expansion, transactions, affiliations, collaborations, investments or other models in local, regional and national territories. Strategies may include, though are not limited to extending Dana-Farber’s clinical impact, revenue generation, business diversification, access and volume, and expanding reputation awareness.Oversee ongoing analyses of the target markets and market opportunities for Dana-Farber.Responsible for maintaining active pipeline of prospective clinical strategies, affiliates, network relationships and potentially campus expansions.Project manage any new initiatives and maintain/manage the pipeline of initiatives including resource allocation.Support and engage in negotiations and development of complex business models.Ensure comprehensive clinical, financial, legal/regulatory, operational and other risk-related diligence activities are preformed prior to execution of a new relationship, as well as ongoing as appropriate.When necessary, ensure successful new relationship launch and/or transition.Identify and evaluate potential clinical joint venture opportunities.Work to negotiate and execute any contracts related to partnerships, network development, or clinical growth activities with support from general counsel and in collaboration with the Director of Network Management for any relationships/partnerships.Develop pro formas, pricing, deal structure, term sheets, and work closely with Director of Network Management and general counsel on contractual agreements which may include but are not limited to non-disclosure agreements, business associate agreements, consulting agreements, strategic alliances, membership agreements, management agreements, and others.Other duties as assigned.

 New Campus Business Development and Campus Expansion

Plan and execute strategies for developing new campus locations and/or expand existing campuses.Lead expansion efforts, including site selection, feasibility studies, financial planning and business development negotiations and activities (e.g., transactions, affiliations, collaborations, joint ventures or operating agreements, or other models) as needed. Support extension and renegotiation as needed.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful campus launches.Coordinate with Network and Market Intelligence/Performance Management teams to assess expansion needs and anticipated capacity constraints of current Dana-Farber campus locations.Develop strategies on the basis of the analyses performed by these teams, institutional priorities and external market dynamics.Lead market analysis and planning for new campuses and potential partners for new campuses.Work closely with network operations and clinical leadership and external executives and leaders at other organizations on term sheet development and negotiations, valuations as applicable, and contractual agreements in collaboration with general counsel.Work closely with facilities, design, & real estate teams, and general counsel, on the site development plan and lease agreements as applicable.Work closely and keep consistent communication with Network Operations administrative and clinical leadership to ensure alignment.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages at least 1 direct report. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Masters (MHA, MBA, MPH or related degree) preferred.7 years of related work experience required in health care transactions, investment banking, private equity, consulting, hospital management, hospital strategic planning, or hospital administrative fellowship/internships.Experience working in a cancer service, cancer investments/transactions, or a cancer center preferred.Ability to work independently on projects with minimal oversight.Supervisory/management experience required.Extensive experience with transactions and healthcare valuation processes.Proven track record in network growth and development, including experience with collaborations, transactions, joint ventures and partnerships.Experience working with large datasets required.Experience in project management required, including willingness to achieve PMP or similar certification if not already certified.Experience in managing diverse teams across multiple locations.Strong ethical standards and integrity.Extensive experience in optimizing clinical operations and improving patient care outcomes, with knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards.High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills.Robust professional network in related fields.Knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance, and accreditation standards.Experience working with clinical leaders as partners and advisers.Ability to travel domestically as required (estimated 10-15%).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Strong communication and presentation skills.Ability to converse effectively, prepare written proposals, analyses and other documents.Proficiency in financial management and understanding of healthcare economics.Strong business, financial and analytical acumen.Ability to maintain extensive knowledge of developments in the health care market in order to assess the position of the Institute and determine how to improve it.Excellent quantitative, analytic, financial and problem-solving skills to evaluate all aspects of a problem or opportunity and make or facilitate appropriate and timely decisions.Strong negotiation, collaboration, project management and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to drive multiple concurrent projects to completion in a complex, consensus-oriented environment.Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor and lead others.Strong relationship-building skills and ability to foster collaboration and build consensus among diverse groups across all levels of the organization and will external institutions.Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with Project, Visio, and various analytics tools preferred.Deals well with uncertainty and ambiguity; flexible with changes in prioritization within a consensus decision-making environment.Self-motivated with ability to work independently on new and existing projects.Strong client/results orientation, and effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain balance between attention to detail to ensure high quality deliverables, and ability to think and operate from a broader strategic lens.Demonstrated self-awareness, strong professionalism, a strong work ethic and the ability to handle difficult situations effectively and efficiently.
