The Office of Research at the Dell Medical School is looking for an Associate Director of Research Project Management.
The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas in Austin is pioneering the future of health in Texas. Our vision includes establishing a top-tier academic medical center with UT Austin and community partners, focusing on integrated, multidisciplinary care, impactful research, and innovative education and life sciences. As part of a five-year expansion plan, Dell Medical School will open a new academic hospital next to MD Anderson’s cancer center, grow ambulatory services, recruit over 300 new clinicians, and build the data and technology infrastructure for these advancements. The Associate Director of Research Project Management will work closely with the research leadership team to support the build-out of the Dell Medical School Research Enterprise.
In close coordination with Research leadership, the Associate Director of Research Project Management will oversee the planning, execution, coordination, and successful delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects for the research pillar. This role is crucial to the successful development of the research infrastructure to support the expected rapid growth of the research enterprise. The Associate Director will provide strategic leadership, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. They will engage with key stakeholders from Dell Medical School, the University of Texas, and external partners to consider impact on a broad range of stakeholders and ensure all projects align with institutional goals and regulatory standards.
Purpose
The Associate Director of Research Project Management will lead and coordinate complex, multi-disciplinary projects for the research pillar, working closely with Research leadership. They will provide strategic oversight, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Develop, oversee, and manage major projects to align with institutional goals.
Define project objectives, scope, timeline, and deliverables in collaboration with senior research leadership.
Coordinate project management staff, resources, and budgets to efficiently and seamlessly achieve project milestones based on constructed timelines and schedules.
Maintain and report project progress and implement corrective actions for discrepancies.
Facilitate clear communication among stakeholders and act as the liaison to research leadership.
Ensure all projects adhere to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Identify and mitigate project risks, including compliance and safety concerns.
Implement project management best practices and drive process improvements for efficiency.
Mentor junior project managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
Other related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in project management, business administration, healthcare, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of hands-on project management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a healthcare or research environment. Proven experience in change management and driving organizational transformation. Strong track record of managing complex, multidisciplinary projects within set timelines and budgets. Proficient in project management methodologies, tools, and software. Skilled at collaborating with cross-functional teams, including researchers, clinicians, and senior leadership. Excellent organizational and time-management skills with a detail-oriented approach to tracking and reporting progress. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards for healthcare and research. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies. Exceptional communication skills, with experience presenting to stakeholders at all levels and translating technical issues for non-technical audiences. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, with expertise in project management tools. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in project management, healthcare administration, or a related field. Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification. Experience in project management within an academic medical center or large healthcare system. Knowledge of Health IT data standards and terminologies. Experience with REDCap Administration. Familiarity with HIPAA. Experience with Tableau, Power BI, SmartSheet, SQL, Microsoft Access, Oracle (or similar).
