About the role Responsible for researching, developing, and applying software for new and existing residential products, including all stages of the product life cycle. Works under moderate supervision. There is no relocation or sponsorship for this role. Responsibilities Work with Product and Engineering Management in the various stages of product development, as required: Research new parts and technologies. Develop the firmware and test specifications for products. Assist in component selection and hardware design. Assist with development of an operations manual, if applicable. Design & develop firmware/software for electrical assemblies for products according to the specifications. Develop application systems. This includes preparing requirement specifications, analysis, design, coding, implementation, and testing components of application as assigned, according to defined application requirements. Write efficient code for complex programming assignments and carry out testing. Develop comprehensive test data, conduct independent unit tests and assist in system testing and documentation. Prepare Statements of Work, Project Plans, and follow through with problems in a timely manner. Debug low level issues for new and existing products. Assist other engineers for development and testing of new and existing products. Qualifications Excellent skills in technical documentation Excellent communication skills Excellent organizational skills with a keen focus to detail Understanding of electrical safety Education & Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer Science or other Engineering related field 0-2 years experience in embedded hardware & software engineering, design & development. Prior internship experience is a plus. Familiarity with industry practices and tools in the implementation of embedded hardware and software technology Experience with embedded firmware in C or C++ required Experience in designing firmware using 16/32 microcontrollers and ARM processors Understanding of RTOS concepts and expertise in designing event driven real time firmware Experience in designing firmware for CAN, BLE, UART, SPI, I2C or other communication protocols Experience using debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or JTAG debuggers Must have strong debugging critical thinking.
