Locations: East Berlin, Connecticut

P&C Associate Engineer is responsible for completing activities and assignments with the design and operation of protection and control systems necessary for the safe and reliable operation of the transmission and distribution system to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. In addition, this position will analyze protection system operations, and the appropriate resolutions, in order to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance. This position shares accountability with peers in the planning, project management, substation engineering, operations, and maintenance organizations to carry out the efficient and timely completion of system reliability projects, generation interconnection projects and system restoration and troubleshooting efforts.

Protection and Controls is responsible for the design and operation of protection and control systems necessary for the safe and reliable operation of the transmission and distribution system. Protective relaying is a vital part of any electric power system and is very important during trouble faults and abnormal disturbances. If a fault were to occur, protective relaying initiates the disconnection of the trouble area while operation and service in the rest of the system continue.

Essential Functions: 

Review and evaluate proposed changes to existing electric facilities to ensure compatibility with established Eversource protection system standards and practices.Create new Protection and Control system designs in accordance with Eversource Standards as required.Specify materials associated with new or modified Protection and Control systems for assigned projectsDevelop, calculate, and document settings and logic for protective relays, logic processors, feeder reclosers, and switches necessary to support Eversource system reliability projects and initiatives.Perform coordination studies by modeling and analyzing electric system elements and their protection systems using fault simulation software.Analyze protection system operations during transmission and distribution system disturbances in support of Substation Technical Group Event analysis.Interface with Eversource Planning, Operations and Field personnel to support their efforts to plan, operate and maintain the transmission and distribution system.Manage and perform work activities with training, guidance and oversight from senior staff and management.Actively support storm and/or emergency restoration assignments.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.Familiarity with power related software is preferred.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.                   

Experience:    0-3 years related experience is required. Individuals with a focus in electric power systems engineering are preferred

Working Conditions:

Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program.  The annual salary range for this position is $79,130.00 to $87,920.00, plus incentive.  Salary is commensurate with your experience.  Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
