We have recently been named as a Delivery Partner for the Environment Agency’s latest framework - to help better understand the impact of climate change and risk of flooding for communities in England. Under the 2024 Mapping and Modelling Framework AtkinsRéalis will provide the Environment Agency with survey, mapping, modelling, incident management, hydrological and other professional services to help identify and plan for climate events. This is a significant programme that will help the Environment Agency understand better the impact of climate change and reduce the risk of flooding to communities across England, including the vital response required to support communities that have been flooded. The Mapping and Modelling Framework underpins the work of the Environment Agency, enabling it to make informed investment decisions based on data and evidence.

All our projects are run with our colleagues in India, and you will be working as part of an international team.
We have vacancies for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to lead and grow our world class flood risk management team. We are seeking technical experts with a high profile in the flood risk management industry capable of leading on the delivery of hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects, including 1D and 2D models for rivers, surface water and sewers. You will also be addressing the required funding arrangements for public sector projects, and working alongside our engineers, ecologists, environmental scientists and other technical experts in key service areas. You will have the chance to develop opportunities and lead on international projects through our increasing portfolio of overseas work, and with our staff in Canada, USA, India, Africa and Asia Pacific.
You should have good project management skills, commercial awareness and the confidence to lead technical work, as well as mentor junior team members in developing their skills. You must be client focused and able to build strong relationships with our clients with a high degree of collaborative working skills to ensure we get the best from our working relationships with client teams.
Requirements:
Our current vacancies are for Associate consultants, engineers and modelers across our primary UK offices, although consideration will be given to exceptional candidates in other locations. You should have experience in delivering flood risk projects, and we also welcome more focused project management skills for this vacancy. Alternatively if you have the confidence to lead technical work and mentor junior team members in developing their skills this role is also for you. We want you to build strong relationships with our clients with a high degree of collaborative working skills to ensure we get the best from our working relationships with client teams.
Qualifications: A degree in Geography, Science or Civil Engineering, and ideally an MSc or further post graduate qualification in a relevant subject area or notable experience. Chartered or Fellow status with CIWEM or ICE.Experience: Over extensive years of experience in flood risk management, with demonstrated project delivery and meeting client requirements. Have Significant experience in carrying out flood risk analyses for planning, development, and design.Leadership: Experience in developing and leading technical teams, and supporting and mentoring staff.Decision-Making: Ability to make robust decisions based on available information.Technical Skills: either Project management with commercial, contractual and financial management, and project programming. A track record of project delivery and performance, meeting client expectations and maximising commercial performance; or Be proficient in 1D-2D modelling using tools like Infoworks ICM, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW/ESTRY, or HEC-RAS, be able to use, or have a strong awareness of GIS with ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS. Hydrological Assessment is desirable experience with FEH hydrological assessment and UK hydrology.Engineering design experience; experience in undertaking scour assessments and developing scour protection is desirable, but not essential.AtkinsRéalis and its clients expect you to have a Chartered status at this grade.
Responsibilities:
Whether a dedicated project manager or a technical lead, your day to day activities will involve developing and agreeing the scope of services, managing and supervising junior resources, and actively progressing a suite of projects under your control. You will have an excellent grasp of project procedures including financial and change control, report writing, ability to present, and quality assurance through checking and reviewing.
You will be required to produce high quality client facing reports, and to undertake and lead hydraulic modelling and data analysis to support projects. On an on-going basis, you’ll be supporting project managers and directors in delivering a range of projects, including strategic infrastructure projects where we may also provide an internally facing consultancy service. Business development and work-winning will be a key part of your role. You will be required to lead bidding activities, and to promote the organisation’s capabilities through your own industry credentials.
Leadership and Management: Manage and supervise junior resources. Support project managers and directors by following project procedures, including financial and change control. Actively progress a suite of projects under your control.Collaboration and Integration: Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with environmental scientists, engineers, and planners. Provide a consistent and integrated service to clients.Business Development: Support business development activities, including tendering for projects and client/stakeholder engagement. Develop and agree on the scope of services, costs, and resources.Technical Work: Conduct detailed technical work, including hydraulic modelling, data analysis, GIS, and technical reporting. Ensure quality assurance for technical deliverables.Team Development: Contribute to the continued development of the Flood Risk Team through active involvement in the technical network.The Individual:
