Growing together.** The **Sr. Privacy Consultant / Associate General Counsel** is a combined privacy investigator and counsel role responsible for conducting and managing investigations into reports of privacy and security incidents across multiple lines of business, knowing and applying state and federal privacy and data breach laws and regulations, assisting in policy creation and review, and consulting on data privacy and IT data security matters. This role will provide privacy and data security guidance to Privacy Office Staff and business areas, and will coordinate with various internal departments to ensure operational and procedural compliance with state and federal regulations as necessary. This individual will also conduct various advanced legal research on privacy topics as needed to assist the Director of Investigations / Senior Privacy Counsel, Privacy Office Staff, Attorneys and the Chief Privacy Officer. This position is required to handle multiple tasks and work streams simultaneously in a fast-paced, highly matrixed corporate environment. Experience working in a large, complex organization in a legal or regulatory compliance role is desirable. Health care privacy experience preferred, as well as a solid understanding of HIPAA, state privacy, and data security rules and regulations. Information Technology/Data Security experience is desirable. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. **Primary Responsibilities:** + Function as a privacy incident investigator which involves performing factual investigations, complex data analysis, conducting interviews, developing risk analysis, reviewing and analyzing contractual obligations and advising on mitigation and corrective actions + Assist the Director of Investigations / Senior Privacy Counsel with all legal aspects of privacy incident management + Work closely and collaborate with legal counsel from across the enterprise + Collaborate with other legal and business professionals cross-functionally to ensure regulatory and contractual requirements are understood by business and compliance teams + Counsel and guide internal stakeholders on the development and implementation of policies, procedures, structures and processes to meet regulatory and contractual requirements + Establish and maintain key relationships with a multitude of subject matter experts across all areas of the enterprise + Assist in responding to inquiries from state and federal regulators, customers, law enforcement and other external stakeholders under the supervision of Senior Privacy Counsel You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. **Required Qualifications:** + Juris Doctorate degree + Current license to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions + 5+ years of legal experience + Proven exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills + Proven excellent organizational skills + Proven analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills + Proven self-starter and ability to work independently on complex matters with minimal supervision + Proven ability to manage a significant and diverse workload with short turnaround times and firm deadlines + Proven solid interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships within a large and complex environment + Proven ability and flexibility to effectively work within a constantly evolving business and regulatory environment **Preferred Qualifications:** + CIPP/US and/or CIPM certification + Legal experience in health law or commercial health insurance and health care service delivery + Experience with federal and state regulatory agencies + Understanding of health insurance, health care service delivery and/or the managed care industry + Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment + Proven ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
