Associate General Counsel
Description We are seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our team in the education sector in Watertown, Massachusetts. In this role, you will provide legal guidance and assistance across a wide range of areas, including Charitable Giving, Business Tax, Non-Profit Organizations, Employee Compensation, Finance, International Taxation, and Charitable Trusts. Responsibilities: • Providing legal advice and guidance on a variety of issues relevant to a complex research university. • Offering sophisticated practice expertise in areas such as Charitable Remainder Trusts, Corporate Tax Compliance, and Donations. • Leading key transactions involving university donations, including large and complex gift agreements. • Conducting analysis of legislative and political actions, as well as private benefit and private inurement issues. • Working independently yet collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment to provide practical, objective advice. • Managing multiple projects and prioritizing competing client needs in a dynamic environment. • Utilizing skills in International Tax Compliance and U.S. International Tax to handle tax-exempt bond issuances. • Supporting the mission of the organization through resourceful and collegial work ethics. • Offering leadership and demonstrating good sense and judgment in all tasks and responsibilities. Requirements • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role or in the legal field. • Proven expertise in Charitable Remainder Trusts, Corporate Tax Compliance, and Corporate Tax Department. • Familiarity with 501C3, International Tax Compliance, U.S. International Tax, and Donations is necessary. • Must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. • Must be a member in good standing of a state bar. • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice in a clear and concise manner. • Strong legal research and writing skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects, activities, and tasks simultaneously. • High level of professional integrity and ethics required. • Proficiency in using legal research software and other relevant databases. • Experience in the education sector is preferred but not mandatory. • Proven track record in formulating, drafting, and implementing comprehensive legal policies and procedures. • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes is required.
