About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Associate General Counsel to become a member of the Technology, Digital & Innovation Section within the Corporate & Investment Bank and Technology, Innovation & Information Law (CIBTII) Division of the Legal Department. The Section provides legal support for technology, including implementation of technology tools for employees, digital platforms, innovation, corporate strategy, regulatory matters, industry advocacy, technology resiliency and associated risks.
The advice and counsel provided by Section attorneys include advice in connection with development of new or expanded products and services; advice in connection with the development of policies, procedures, and training about those laws and regulations, and associated topics with respect to which Section attorneys serve as subject matter experts. Section attorneys provide advice to members of the Wells Fargo Legal Department and counsel to lines of business and the company’s compliance, risk and audit functions on laws and regulations, risk and compliance policies, and related risk containment and mitigation efforts. Other responsibilities include participating in industry trade association meetings; and preparing or assisting in the preparation of comment letters on proposed regulatory changes.
The Associate General Counsel for Technology will manage and lead a team of lawyer and paralegal professionals and will empower effective legal support and legal risk guidance for Wells Fargo Technology (WFT) organization, which is tasked with achieving Wells Fargo’s technology transformation through new and ongoing initiatives in advanced technologies, such as cloud, artificial intelligence, and blockchain/distributed ledger technology.

Serve as an experienced legal advisor to more experienced management of the businesses within Wells FargoHandle matters that have a significant impact on operations, strategies, or profitabilityManage and develop teams with moderate complexity and riskParticipate in the most complex legal projectsApply specialty legal expertise proactively, to manage the most complex legal and regulatory issuesIdentify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control developmentDetermine appropriate strategy and actions of team to meet moderate to high-risk deliverablesInterpret and develop policies and procedures for functions with moderate complexity within scope of responsibilityDevelop relationships with and provide guidance to more experienced leadership including executive officers on issues that may present legal, regulatory, compliance, or reputational risk to the CompanyCollaborate with and influence all levels of professionals, including more experienced managersOversee and take an active role in the education and training of a team of attorneyEngage and influence stakeholders, internal partners and peers associated with the function or affected by its outcomesManage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in CounselDevelop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategyRequired Qualifications:
6+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education3+ years of leadership experienceActive State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United StatesDesired Qualifications:
Significant expertise in U.S. and international legal, regulatory, and compliance issues relating to cloud computing, generative artificial intelligence, regulatory supervisory guidance, including knowledge of FFIEC IT handbooks and other regulatory risk management guidanceExperience providing legal counsel on blockchain/distributive ledger technology matters, oversight of third-party technology service providers and consultants, electronic discovery, records management, import/export laws, licensing, privacy, big data and information security laws.Prior in-house experience at a large financial firm on regulatory agency will be preferred, but law firm experience will also be given considerationAbility to analyze legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal mattersAbility to:Lead and manage teams, projects, and work across multiple geographic locations.Positively and effectively inspire, lead and motivate the team to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work effectively, efficiently, and with intensity in a dynamic and complex environment.Manage a budget.Adapt to and support change in a dynamic work environmentPay Range
