Associate Judge (Seasonal)

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire a seasonal Associate Judge for the 2024 Racing Season. Under the direction of the Director of Racing, this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of the race meet. This position will be based at Plainridge Park in Plainville, MA. The anticipated dates of service are April through November 2024.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supervise the conduct of all racing officials

Review all applications for occupational licenses and make approval/denial decisions

Oversee the opening of entries and the drawing of positions; review eligibility of all entries; review programs for errors and changes; promptly report errors and changes

Observe each race and replay;participate in thereviewof inquiries orobjections; make results official; designate horses for testing

Participate in hearings regarding alleged rule infractions; recommend appropriate sanctions

Respondquicklyandappropriatelyto questions and complaints

Knowledge/skills required:

Currentlevel III or higher accreditationthrough the Racing Officials Accreditation Program

Current licensure as an Associate or PresidingJudge with the United States Trotting Association

Knowledge/skills preferred:

Experience with relevant office software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite

Previous similar experience in a local, state, or federal government agency setting

Salary is hourly and commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full credit check, CORI, drug screen, and finger printing.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011).Under thelaw, the Commissionis tasked with establishinga regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing,taxation,and oversight of a maximum of three casino licenses and one slots parlor license in Massachusetts.
