Associate Launch Application Software Engineer

As a member of the Platforms engineering team, you will perform as the Software Engineer for the COMET Command and Control Tools team (C&C Tools). The C&C Tools team supports NASA's Spaceport Command and Control System (SCCS), used for checkout and launch of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft. The successful candidate will contribute to the platform infrastructure used to test the Launch Control System and launch software supporting the launch for NASA's Artemis program. **Responsibilities** Work activities include design, development, integration, testing, documentation, and support of the computer software and systems required to support the platforms engineering team. Under general supervision, job duties will include: - Lead as a developer in an agile team that is conducting daily scrum meetings, biweekly sprints and retrospectives, and group planning of development tasks and timelines; - Write and test new software, shape design, and participate in peer reviews to meet high-level NASA requirements; - Action internal, external, and user feedback to troubleshoot, improve, and maintain software under a CMMI compliant process; - Participate in design panels, technical assessments, and analysis tasks to determine how new capabilities and changes will impact the products and rest of the system; - Other duties as assigned. **Access to Kennedy Space Center Amenities** While doing your part to help further space exploration at Kennedy Space Center, you can enjoy many on-site amenities, such as: • Child Development Center • Discounted tickets to local attractions and theme parks • Credit Union • Fitness Center • Barbershop • NASA Exchanges **Required:** B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or related field from an accredited college and university, with at least 4 years of relevant, full software life cycle experience. Additional education may be substituted for relevant experience. **This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.** **Desirable:** - Familiarity with the software life cycle involving design, development, testing, integration, delivery, and maintenance (with personal involvement in at least one cycle of software). - Proficient in one or more of the following programming languages: C++, Java or Python. - Capability to produce technical/design documentation and well-documented software. - Ability to work and seek feedback independently as well as integrate productively in a supportive team environment providing clear and effective communication. - Capable of flexibility and personal responsibility involve in an agile team: project planning, group estimation, and willingness to assist teammates. - Prioritizing and executing a fast-paced environment with varying requirements and deadlines. - Desire to learn, willingness to quickly absorb domain knowledge, and capability of taking/providing feedback. **Highly Desirable Experience/Abilities:** - NASA's Trick Simulation Environment. - Jenkins automation server. - Perl programming language. - MATLAB Simulink. - EtherNet/IP Scanner Developers Kit (ESDK). - Linux and Windows OS: kernel, threading, networking, and virtual machines experience. - Administration and maintenance of computer software. **Work Environment** • Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. • Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site. • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, is required to access various locations on the facility. • Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary. • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety **Equipment and Machines** • Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules. • Variety of equipment used in testing. **Attendance** • Full-time work hours. • Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task. • Must be dependable and punctual. • Shift work may be required. **Other Essential Functions** • Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication. • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. • Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions. • Government security clearance may be required in the future. • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
