Associate Librarian

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working in collaboration with the Pacific Oaks Librarian, the Associate Librarian is a Full-Time position providing research and academic support primarily to doctoral students, professors, and staff in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program at Pacific Oaks College.

This position is located in Pasadena and online.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General Supervision: The incumbent normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Minimal or no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Conduct student workshops, consultations, and Doctoral Research Project reviews: Online, in classroom, and in the library, with particular emphasis on Educational Research, Database and Catalog searching, and American Psychological Association formatting (APA 7) techniques for graduate level papers and Doctoral Research Projects.

Provide onsite and remote reference and research support, as well as curriculum supervision through classroom observations and feedback.

Establish and maintain effective individual and team working relationships with students, professors, academic advisors, and library staff.

Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance and improve program performance.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of library workflows, documentation, processes, etc.

Knowledge of information retrieval theory and practice as well as delivery systems.

SKILLS:

Intermediate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, databases, and presentation software. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including significant experience reading and editing academic work), as well as student-service, analytical and organizational skills.

ABILITIES:

Ability to manage multiple concurrent student and faculty expectations, deliverables, and priorities, and to provide support for students’ academic development. 

Demonstrated ability to assist students with Doctoral-level research tools and techniques, including searching for and providing information from article, journal and eBook databases.

Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is required OR the equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions

Experience:

Experience in post-secondary instruction is desirable.

Experience with American Psychological Association formatting (APA 7) is also desirable.

DECISION MAKING:

The position is governed by the policies of Pacific Oaks, along with established procedures for the department. Independent judgment is required in the supervision of personnel as well as in the carrying out of the department's strategic goals and budget management.

CONTACT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Routine exchange or presentation of information.

Responsible for demonstrating professionalism and leadership in resolving conflicts with students and employees.  Recommends alternative approaches to solve problems and conflicts. 

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This position does not require the management of budgets, but it is required to follow Pacific Oaks policies for purchasing and budget approvals.

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $29.00-31.19 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
