The College for Education and Engaged Learning (CEEL) and the Department of Educational Foundations (EDFD) offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Associate or Full-Professor in School Psychology.
We seek a colleague who is nationally recognized with a successful track record of publications, grant funding, and service to national and/or international professional committees/organizations. An ideal candidate is a scholar practitioner committed to mentoring/advising graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels. As a federally designated HSI, Montclair is overall majority-minority serving, with more than 66% of undergraduate students being non-white and 45% Pell eligible. We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and visionary leader to serve as the founding director of the new Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) program in School Psychology. The successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, administration, and accreditation of the program that aligns with the University’s mission to prepare highly skilled, ethical, and culturally competent school psychologists to address the complex needs of society. As the founding director, the candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the programs curriculum, recruiting faculty and students, fostering partnerships, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., National Association of School Psychologist [NASP]; American Psychological Association [APA]). This position provides an exciting opportunity to establish a high-quality, sustainable Psy.D. program in School Psychology that meets the growing demand for well-prepared school psychologists.
Key Responsibilities
● Program Development and Leadership:
Lead the design and development of the Psy.D. program, including curriculum development, program structure, and degree requirements.
Oversee efforts to achieve and maintain program accreditation with relevant professional bodies (e.g., NASP, APA).
Ensure that the program meets professional and educational standards for training license-eligible school psychologists.
Establish and implement the strategic vision and goals for the program.
● Collaboration and Outreach:
Build and sustain partnerships across the University, as well as with local school districts, community organizations, and professional associations.
Represent the program and institution at regional, national, and international levels.
● Research and Teaching:
Facilitate research in School Psychology.
Teach graduate-level courses in School Psychology.
Mentor and advise graduate students in School Psychology.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
Earned doctorate in School Psychology (Psy.D., Ed.D. or Ph.D.) from an APA-accredited and/or NASP- accredited program.
Substantial prior leadership experience in developing, accrediting, and overseeing graduate-level programs in school psychology.
Demonstrated record of impactful scholarship, effective teaching, and meaningful service in the field of school psychology.
Experienced school psychologist with expertise in clinical supervision and training.
A minimum of five years of high-quality teaching experience at the graduate-level, with a focus on school psychology.
Field experience as a school psychologist in K-12 schools.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with a collaborative leadership style.

Montclair is home to the nationally ranked College for Education and Engaged Learning (CEEL). CEEL was established in July 2023 after the reorganization of the former College of Education and Human Services. Education is at the heart of Montclair, whose institutional history is rooted as a normal school. One hundred and sixteen years later, CEEL carries the torch of Montclair’s commitment to education, and is comprised of three academic departments and six revenue-generating centers that serve 647 undergraduate and 1047 graduate students. CEEL is well positioned to offer a Psy.D. in School Psychology, given our existing centers and work in this area. The Department of Educational Foundations (EDFD) focuses on: (a) the analysis and critique of educational forms, practices and theories from philosophical, historical, social, political, psychological and economic perspectives; (b) education as a means to realizing a more just and democratic society; and
(c) the promotion and development of critical and creative thinking in educational contexts.
Interdisciplinary partnerships are important to the EDFD faculty, as such we are seeking a faculty member who is experienced in collaborating across disciplines. EDFD faculty teach in the robust undergraduate major in Educational Foundations for Elementary Teachers with nearly 650 students in the program. EDFD faculty also teach research methodology and assessment courses to the University’s master’s and doctoral students. EDFD delivers a variety of courses designed to prepare public and private school educators, administrators, community educators, and policymakers to meet the educational demands of our diverse and information-rich society. Along with the charge to serve professional and pre-professional educators, the department seeks to develop in students from all disciplines a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between education and culture, as well as the tools of inquiry that support sound decision-making in a variety of contexts.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience
